I assume this has been done before but

what are your favorite bits of kit

for me it would have to be
-SurfMud zinc, love it during summer, doesn't come off unless you rub it off and lasts all day
- My new wetty from need essentials, for the price it has been great and hasn't let me down all winter yet

Rip Curl Search GPS watch. Maybe it is the engineer in me, but I like look at the speed, time in water, wave count, and distance. Sometimes I look at the session overlaid on the map.

Rip Curl UV tees. The loose fit and the soft texture is extremely comfortable, and drys instantly. It thus refreshes you for hot sessions and keep you warm against chilly winds before the sun gets out.

Custom molded ear plugs, with only 2.5db noise attenuation www.surdifuse.com/aquason-protection

ATAN boots, in pure natural latex for an incredible true barefoot feeling in winter. atan.fr/en/surfing-booties-6

Kidde keysafe: www.kidde.com/home-safety/en/us/products/key-security/residential-key-security/key-boxes/3-key--spin-dial/ extremely sturdy (cannot be compared to the junk sold in surf shops), and the push button version can be opened even if you cannot see a thing, as me without my glasses at dusk.

2mm thermal ION long sleeve rashie.
Warm enough for under winter wetsuits, warm enough for cool Spring days (without wetsuits) and warm and sunscreen for Summer days (when here's a bit of wind too)
Its my go-to piece of clothing.

Apart from my boards and paddle...my best buy and accesory has been the Lockrack system..saves so much time..and is secure..the other things i just bought in Hawaii was a Blue Planet Paddle shirt..uv resistant, quick dry and looks the goods.

Aside from boards / paddles / wetty's all of which are fairly subjective....my most sensible purchase to date was probably my impact vest. Other handy items include RSPro hexa traction & rail saver (ION seems to be of equal quality) / Balin storm leashes (I've yet to break 1) / C-Drive & 3D fins / Flying Objects bags....to name a few

Yeah another vote for Lockrack, no more feckin around with ties.

Start every sesh with a double shot flat white from the almost mandatory accessory the BFC e61 group based espresso machine - yeah baby!

Add in SEKI earplugs for my surfers ear afflicted lug holes (pretty good but loved my Sorkys until the "pulls" broke off), kook hat and convertible wettie for summer (that one day a year in Wellington), 1 day contact lenses, O&E velcro straps for bottom of wettie to stop water explosions up the pins, boardbag to keep saltwater off car, RSPro rail tape, Leash Lok 9mm leggies, oh and webcams to save petrol but also provide massive distraction at work.

Was going to add in Gopro Hero 3 but that sits in cupboard most of the time.

Colas, thats a great tip regarding the push button keysafe, as I quite often come in when its dark and can't read the numbers. Only issue is that the Kidde and every other push button portable key safe I can find online don't have the internal depth for the fat old Skoda key - oh well!

t457118, nice touch for the expresso machine.

I used to bring my expresso machine in vacations (!) until I found this pure gem of innovative craftmanship: the Handpresso.
www.handpresso.com/en/ You wont believe the coffee quality of this "simple" manual pump expresso

Yes, the Kidde is tiny :-( I can only put a small mechanical spare key, without any key ring or anything else...

My 9'10" Zeusman sig from Surefire. But apart from boards and paddles, I'd say my rip curl GPS. Just adds a little something fun to the session.

By far...... my "Kook hat" with ear flaps and chin strap.

Why?
Because it ended 40 years of ear infections and hearing loss.
Nothing ever worked before. Not ear plugs. Not antibiotics. Nothing.
The ear coverings on my Kook hats have eliminate lifelong ear problems for the past 4 years.

Ends sunrise blindness. Good overall sun shade.

Oh yeah..... and it's a great place to mount my GoPro Sessions4

Currently DaKine

Interesting. Other than my boards and paddles I think my favourite pieces of kit are my Patagonia R2 and R3 wetsuits (pre Ulex neoprene). I surf in cold water and these fit well and have kept me warm.

Cheers

Bob
