Planning on doing a couple this summer when the breezes return and would like to know what others have acheived.

Chris Bertish holds the Guiness Record with 130km in 12 hours.....that will be tough to beat. Dave Kalama has paddled 5hours upwind to do 1.5hrs downwind....both are nuts!

Our mega DW'er from the top of the bay to the bottom.. I think it was about 60 klms in about 6hrs.

I hadn't seen that one before DJ - interesting reading, particularly regarding the loss of balance when you get tired

Hi mate, if your looking for local runs, I paddled Seacliff to north haven in feb. That was 30kms. Was a great run and pretty accessible. A couple of mates also paddled from the mainland to K.I. Not sure of distance but they had a support boat. There's a few of us planning to do a couple of longer ones soon. Maybe normanville to north haven, I think that could be 100kms but may break it down over 2 days. Your welcome to tag along.

Will be interested to hear how you go on your Normanville to North Have DW. I'm located in Whyalla so looking at a range of different ones in the area. Down the gulf from Pt Lowly towards Port Augusta.
Last year a mate rowed a tinny from Point lowly to Port Augusta so I'm thinking it must be acheivable on a good SUP.

How far is that distance? If it can be done in a tinny should be easy work on a sup especially if you get some decent wind. Would that be a SW'er to blow you back up the gulf? We get some great runs this way on a SW stormy. Also another paddle we have planned would be from the metro coast in adelaide over to the Yorke Penisula. Maybe you could join us for that one? We might be able to pick you up at port Wakefield? Gotta try and organise a support boat tho. We can keep you in the loop.

Got the family shack about 16km down the gulf for the trial run and all up I think it could be in the 50-60km range. My Mate rowed it as a fund raiser and suprised everyone with his determanation was lucky for overnight wind shift and did the return journey. Summer seabreezes blow straight up the gulf and get up to 30knots.

That's a good effort for the fundraiser. Paddling is the only thing keeping me sane in the summer because as you know the seabreeze trash the surf down south but we get some awesome runs along the metro. If your not already on the Facebook site, go and search for SA SUP CREW. You don't have to be a member to get involved and you can keep up to date with all the planned/spontaneous events and buying/selling gear.

Around point lowly you will need to time the tide otherwise you will be paddling backwards.

Bleachy, I might be able to help you out with a support boat to cross the gulf but I would prefer two boats if there are a few paddlers.

I checked my mates blog on his row up the gulf it took 3 days for the return journey all up 120km. 1st day acheived 40km into a Northerly second day into Port Augusta and started his return journey another 40 km. 3rd day the wind swung around and pulled him into the middle of the gulf made no headway so had too have his rescue boat drag him directly back to the edge of the gulf to get out of the wind to be able to complete the last 5km. Fair effort for a Tinny.

Hi EB, that's an awesome effort. By your mate. I wouldn't be paddling that distance unless I had a cranking tailwind haha.

the legend Dale Chapman paddled from Byron bay to Burleigh in less than 8 hours I think with not much good wind that was a big effort.
a couple of Septembers ago I did a paddle for prostate cancer from kingscliff to Yamba over 2 days not sure how many Km I actually paddled but never measured it but I never had any real good wind behind me so with good wind you can go for as long as you can stand up and your fitness levels allow you to .
