What is the best beer for a lockdown ?
It may happen folks, so let's start considering the marketplace and sharing some info.
Lately my on again, off again IPA interest has pulled up to a complete stop, too fruity and the high alcohol content was becoming concerning.
Last weekend I treated the Beer fridge to a second round of made in Italy Peroni Red. Slab price was $49
I found this beer a bit too 'Malty' a few beers in , one of my friends defined the taste as 'rich'.
Strange as I was really enjoying this beer the weekend before and thought I had stumbled across a great beer with a slightly different taste.
Next purchase will probably be back in what one of my buddy's calls 'Rusty nail' beer, ie Melbourne Bitter, VB etc. or Guiness.
Cheers

Coopers pale ale best allround. Might try a home brew kit if sent home from work. Are they still available? Good way to spend some time.

Hard to go past a good Oz Lager, not a lager made by a craft beer company but a true lager.

In a handle or proper tall beer glass it's hard to beat especially if your lock down plan includes cooking a 10 hour brisket, ribs or a side of lamb as you will need to sink a few whilst keeping an eye on it

Red cans for sure over here in WA. Melbourne bitter king browns for a virtual interstate experience could be a welcome change.

Here in France, the post office is now closed, as they devote all their remaining workforce to only handling medical supplies.
So the best beers are your local breweries, that can still come deliver their beers to you (or rather drop at your gate :-).

Dry patch. I have a few bottles of wine. Beer was not on my essentials shopping list. Good time to stay healthy and keep that little bit of money. Who knows what's going to happen in the coming months.
Yes I'm regretting it already! Sure it's right in the long run.

I'm thinking drinking higher alcohol content by volume might be best to help keep virus away, rum and ginger beer? Well it says beer don't it

Yesterday I wanted to have a look at the waves as I'm living 1mile inland...get stop by the police and tell me to not go on riding my scooter to watch the sea
The ones who go out to have a surf in one of the better days of the year because of perfect sand bars and offshore winter swells get warn up to go in from the police helicopter loudspeaker.
At 65, I'm very sad to see how the environment is coming down for youngers as well as my family out of surfing life too.

So I 'm drinking the last few bottles before the end

Home drew all the way.

35 L in my kegs and 3 x 18 L in supplies. I might not have dunny paper but I shouldn't run out of beer and I don't need to leave home.

Basically our government, like all the governments who did not have to face a real pandemic yet (e.g the SARS) did not take this thing seriously while it was still time to prepare. So now they are scrambling in panic trying to do something, improvising contradictory orders every day (forbidding jogging alone but forcing behind the scenes underpaid workers to get to work without protections, even trying to strongarm construction companies to send their employees to work as their bosses refuse to put them in harm ways) while the true measures (early and massive testing, real isolation and antiviral treatments) are done "in the trenches" at the local level but not planned centrally.

This confuse the population greatly. For instance, the cops sent to fine a lone jogger or surfer (or a lone journalist of a main newspaper taking photos of the empty road) are clumped together in their cars or while walking, with no protections... while people are still crowding markets and supermarkets. So yes, you get a lot of people that do not understand that lockdown is ham-handed but the only option in the current situation where we do not have testing kits available. But lockdown will do nothing if we do not have tests and protective gear when it is lifted.

So yes, the degree of amateurism of our government(s) is much, much worse than I expected. But on the other hand the scientific & healthcare community worldwide (and I must say, a big share of the population) is showing impressive collaborative and innovative efforts everywhere and show who should be trusted.
