Some of the local sup guys think that if they go really low volume they will "rule the universe"......Towball is easily amused and likes to see them fall off a ridiculous number of times.......Makorori Point this afternoon (I do like the width and stability of the 9'5 speed)

On the other hand, that's how you progress, having a challenging board in your quiver to use from time to time. Although I reckon I tend to play the balance game on warmer days than when needing a hood...

It's also kind of socially embarrassing.......quite big surf......and the non sup people are going like "what the heck is going on?"

On the other hand, it kills the argument "SUP can take all the waves, it is too easy".

It happened to me 2 months ago. SUPing alone on a peak, then crowds came in and a grumpy old local began to sing me this song (the only time for the 3 months I have been there). As I have been struggling with a new low volume board, I lost my temper, and closed in on him, and try to force him to try it... he retreated and I did not heard him anymore.

Of course the really hard part is to never botch a take off close to surfers... instant credibility loss.

Yes there is probably a personal balance of choice that only the individual can decide.....you could be riding a big fat board that you feel is way too not sexy but catches waves easily in choppy conditions.......or you could be riding a board that is way too small for you in choppy conditions......or you could be riding a board that is still exciting to catch waves on.....and still almost manageable in dodgy conditions. Hard to imagine just one board would fit every situation .....if you feel a need to drop to a very low volume board ?

Classic! Whenever I do the plunk, I can feel the proners loving it.

I guess my main grizzle with the low volume guys is that they are completely fixated upon the volume of the board.....they don't seem to contemplate the advantages of thinner rails and more refined design concepts

For most mortals there gets to a point where the volume is so low you lose all the advantages of being on a SUP and you may as well become a pronie!
