Training tips away from the water

Hay guys looking for your tips and advice on how you keep paddle fit when you can't get out on the water.
I work FIFO on the mines and spend some time away inland and curious how you deal with time away?

Hey mate,
PM my brother AndyR (in the general forums, he has a topic on his piece of sh!t Jeep), but he doesn't work away but put up a you tube video of him training in the gym on a cable pulley machine and one of those half ball things to stand on. looked ok what he was doing and you could certainly do it at your camp gym. i work fifo and and will be having a crack at what he does also.

i cant remember which forums or website he posted it on otherwise id put it up here for you.

Hey mate,

Lay off the Milk bread pasta soft drink. That leaves room for beer.
Chin ups, dips, sit ups and running every second day

This is it. Looks a Bit wanky but I have noticed a massive increase in core strength from using the bosu ball and cable machine. Also use the kettle bell and do pull ups and run . Once or twice a week depending on work/life schedule. Oh and boxing bag once a week
I don't get a lot of time to paddle and I really only go paddling to down wind so when off the water for a couple weeks at a time or more an expecting to be fit enough to paddle 15-20km in down wind conditions I was really struggling. Doing the gym training as well as interval running means when I do paddle now I feel good at the end of the run not shattered and glad to of made it to shore.

Iy you don't have access to a gym, look at the power bands from "IRON EDGE". I have several and they can replace cables and pulleys, you can attach them to doors etc.stand on a foam roller and this will mimic what that bloke is doing in the vid. You could even attach a broom handle to the bands to mimic a paddle ( they come in tensions ranging from 120 kg right down to about 30 Kg.

If you want more info on kettlebells Steve Cotters site is pretty good they are greAt for training in confined quaters

No beer where I work unfortunately. Pub closed down years ago and there's no wet mess. Leaves more time to get out and exercise I guess. Lol

I like your idea AndyR. Mixed with a bit of dingleberry's idea with the straps I could be set..
