Makorori Point Sunday morning with quite strong northerly cross wind and boisterous surface conditions.
Didn't catch very many waves.....but didn't get destroyed by any either
Some I caught standing......others I was a frightened little grommet and stayed kneeling for the takeoff
Some big sets rolling through every 10 or 15 minutes

Could have been a more sophisticated production......but hard to mentally justify the time spent polishing silly little videos

Anyone that says the have never been a frightened little grommet is telling porkies.

How deep is the water there? is it over banks?

The point is over rocks......only one rock that can be an issue at low tide or slightly above low tide.
Then you have to decide whether it is wise to go past the rock and take off further out
But hey....the bigger the surf.....the further out it is breaking from the rocks.
Kind of like two main sections to the wave........the outer one past the rock
And inside the rock....which is kind of like the half way mark when its bigger.
When big and windy can be challenging on a sup as you have the wind chop plus turbulence from underwater rocks.
Which is why the whopper man tends to be the winner....a stable paddling platform :)

The rest of Makorori.....Creeks, Red Bus, Centres and Pop Ups.....have sand bars out past the rocks

am sure there are sup rentals in Auckland.....maybe best to ask the question in a new topic. If you are talking about giz.....have a battered old naish GT 9'10 you could borrow....and an even more battered starboard 10'3 pro

If you are heading up Orewa ways, pop into SUPshed - have a chat with Nic and he will probably sort you out with something. Not sure of his actual rental fleet specs but if you know what you are doing on a SUP he might let you rent out a demo board. Same deal with WSP south pacific in Barrys point road takapuna. They got a nice range of boards there usually

Yep see Nic or Brian at NZ Board store in Pt Chev too. SUP Centre in Newmarket also hire boards.
