I've been making Timber SUP Paddles for a few crew in Torquay. The feedback has been great with their performance and durability. Here are a couple of pic's.

Hello there,
I need some info about how to make them and what kind of wood...
I heard that they can be made quite light and still strong.

Very nice Jason they look great... Welcome to the Breeze..

Are you selling them and how does someone buy one.. and approx how much?

Is there a dihedral on the face of the blade are they flat?

Thanks,
Yes they are for sale. All the paddles in the pic's are gone, I'm currently making another six. They will be between $450 and $550 depending on the construction . I can be contacted at phoenixskye@optusnet.com.au .
The paddle's have a slight dihedral face. I'm building each paddle different so no two people will have the same.

Jason.

Hi Plill

Unfortunatley I will be away interstate that weekend, so am unable to make it.
I live in Jan Juc so if you are interested in seeing the paddles please let me know and we can arrange something.

Thanks Jason.

Thanks,

I do worry about the price. Each Paddle is individually handmade, they take
between 15 and 18 hours with $150 in materials.

Hi guys I have been using a wooden paddle for the past six months and they are the sweetest feeling most powerful paddle I have ever used and I can not go back to any other carbon/glass paddle - they just do not deliver in feel and performance compared to a well made wooden paddle. I personally use a paddle made by "clarkey" from Kingscliffe and I have mates that also use his paddles and all rave about them. Good wooden paddles are amazing and although they may take one or two outings to get the feel I can almost guarantee you will never use anything else ever again and if you get a paddle like mine or one from jason w you gotta admit they are damn sexy looking paddles.

I love the look of those paddles, there's something about wood paddles that just make them so cool
Here's a clip i found on the zone that i'm sure all wood paddle people will enjoy

Apparently they do SUP paddles as well.

Kialoa paddles are $495 so $450-550 is not excessive for a custom made wooden paddle.

15-18 hours is a long time though. Do you make them one paddle at a time or have several going at once. I am guessing you could glass several paddles at once.

I read that it take about 6 hours to make a short surfboard so you have a bit of catching up to do.

Hi Gorgo

I find it easy to make two at a time with six at different stagers. The longest process is the shaft , I hand plan and sand to form an oval shape , and they are one piece from the handle to the tip of the blade.
Also the paddles don't have glass . They have three coats of Epoxy and three coats of a high grade marine poly .
The time just adds up.

Jason.

That is a great vid.. Thanks for posting it Danny..

Jason.. Just wondering.. Do you have one that people can demo?

Interesting that your shafts are oval.. (great).. Are they a similar shape shaft to the Kialoa's?

Thanks for posting the clip.
Thats how I started, and it's good to see the same timber and process I use.
There's great satisfaction I feel when handing over a Paddle I have made , it's fantastic.

Jason.
