I have been having trouble finding info on this.

When i picked up my brand new JL M14 the guys at the shop advised me to purchase an FCS Hatchet fin. I have been using that since the beginning and steering the board is great with it.

But i am spending a lot of time in the water, and i wonder if something a little more dolphin shaped will make a difference to stability?

Everything else i read relates to tracking vs manoeuvrability, btu nothing on stability.

IMO the fins that are more upright and have more area in the tip usually offer the most stability.

More area in the base usually offers better tracking.

I'm a big fan of the dolphin shape fin.. but even they can vary a lot.

I think a big 10'' dolphin fin will go well in the M14.

Fins like the Gladiator Pro [great fin] offers great stability and tracking but suffers with manoeuvrability and surfability.

More time paddling will help the fall off factor :)

Stock fin has a lot of tip area and sheds weed really well which is good for the WA coast.

I recently bought the Black Projet Fins - Maliko Race edition fin for use in the Hawkesbury a Classic and for the upcoming Doctor race.

i found that in the flat water its awesome for tracking straight and shedding the weed. Since then I have paddled 3 DW and really like the way the fin performs, I feel thst it gives me more stability and it helps me stay/connect the bumps better.

Im using it in on my Fanatic Falcon 14' 24.75 carbon race board. At $220 AU it was a little more than I expected but I thought if I'm going to splash out then what's 20-30 bucks extra.

It's a solid Cnc machined fin snd was a liittle tight to instal at first so I had to use some fine grit sandpaper to get a snug fit in the fin box. Tip keep the cover thst comes with the fin on whilst sanding base so you don't scratch the nice finish on the rest of the fin
