Gurus - I have a Garmin 5 and use it for SUP tracking but I'd prefer to see actual time and speed on a wave as opposed to lines going everywhere with no other usual information. What does everyone else use? Cheers

I have Dawn Patrol for Apple Watch. I was super psyched on it for first few sessions, but fun wore off a bit. I like it for seeing where I caught waves since we drift all over on shifty beach break. But the speed isn't helpful IMO- My guess is that it's taking too few points to capture actual path, so it gives you higher speeds the straighter and longer you ride a wave, so Not capturing the type of speed I would want feedback on, still amazing tech we have in 2021. I wear watch every time out but usually forget to turn surf app on. I like option to send text if I were to get in trouble, be accessible if needed (wouldn't be able to surf midweek otherwise given how spotty childcare is)

Ripcurl GPS watch is pretty good and gives a running total of all your surfs

Hi Bluehawk, I have a Garmin 5 and use the surf tracker 2 add on. Still get scribbly red lines but also a summary of waves caught.

Hey mate - what band do you use on your watch?

I had the unfortunate experience yesterday, lost my brand new series 7 when the band snapped after a small crash when foiling. Wasn't even a good crash... Sadly had to go a buy myself a replacement Christmas present but really don't want to experience this again.

Also I've been using the watersports tracking app, has a bunch of dynamic sports and heaps of data for those who like to absorb their sessions on and off the water.

Oh no!!!!! Sorry to hear that. I think I have the Nike band, it's rubber with a stud and holes. I usually have mine inside sleeve of 5/4 mm wetsuit, but not always and I've taken plenty of wrecks with it in. I lost overpriced Oakley rx sunglasses wrecking on a whitewater river SUP so I feel your pain

King Crash - yes I also had a band failure but luckily didn't lose the watch. I bought new ones from OzStraps which were good but I now use a metal band which is perfect.

Yeah a bloody shame, I was given it as an early Christmas present and lost it boxing day. Go figure.... third session in my summer wetsuit and I'd loose it. I had plenty of sessions with just the sports band and had it tucked in my 3/2 winter wettie and no issues, summer 2/1 another story. Water blew up the sleeve and sayonara.

I do have the solid loop, but honestly don't even think its any better. I'll get a metal one alternatively.
