Announcing after a year of planning SupExplore Sydney, Adventure Concept Paddle # 4. The circumnavigation of the Sydney basin. In a world first adventure I plan to SUP 350km and portage 50km in a two week period commencing March 2nd. I am inviting people to support me in this ground breaking paddling in support of Tangaroa Blue and the Australian Marine Debris Initiative. Haha Dave, people have commented Wow thats a long way, I reply that after paddling there a walk will be nice. If I can walk at 3km an hour that is about 2 x 8 hour days of walking, not including stops at traffic lights, intersections and rest breaks. I will be using a rolling device to walk my board. It is called C-Tug by Rail Blaza. This unlike many other sup devices balances the board in the centre and makes it very light.

I am hoping to find some short cuts along the route !!!

Looks amazing Stuart. Will you be camping en-route? There would be some good options for living near the water for much of the trip. I'd be interested to share some ideas with you regarding useful overnight equipment for SUP exploring. I've been gathering gear and planning a much smaller scale SUP adventure on the Colo or similar and am thinking of lightweight hammock gear and solid fuel (wood burning) cooking. I'll be avidly watching the progress and will most likely catch you on the water around the Georges River / Botany Bay sections. Best wishes and look forward to reading about it.

I have one of these and it's awesome. Not only does it charge your devices but it also cooks so it's doubly worth the weight and volume of carrying it.


Have just also added the new kettlepot which makes it all a bit more useful again.

Jason they look cool. A few questions 1) can u get both in Aust and price? 2) They look a bit unstable, are they unstable with a pot etc on? 3) what is the fire restrictions that applies to these devices??? cheers thanks for the info. Stuart

You can get the stove in Australia. Shop around, as they have them in Anaconda and near you at Kellys Basecamp, but online deals are the go. I got mine at http://amtcgear.com.au/ as these were the best deal at the time. They also stock a load of good camping gear for lightweight camping and are nice guys too. I've emailed and spoken to them a bit. The kettle is not yet available here, but REI in the US shipped me one as a Christmas present from the wife. They are worth a look, as their prices are good (often better than buying here) and they sometimes do a bundle offer with the stove, kettle and grill. Their shipping was reasonable and the delivery took 5 days. Price can vary from below $200 to over $250, so definitely worth shopping around. And you never have to buy fuel. Very stable, I have mine with me al the time as there is no excuse for bad coffee and it will handle a large pan too. Not sure about restrictions, as we've used ours in the National Parks a lot and when we asked rangers they were more interested in them than having any opinion on when we could use it. Would definitely not use in a total fire ban, but you shouldn't use any naked flame cooker then, so I'm not sure what other options we have. Find a hot rock and have fried eggs and pancakes. I'll PM you my number, I'd love to demo it for you. I love the product and the company.

This is a network of communities, schools, industries, government agencies and individuals focused on reducing the amount of marine debris washing into our oceans.On every beach around Australia you will find some form of marine debris, from litter left by visitors to international debris, to ghost nets or rubbish washed from far inland through stormwater drains.The statistics are clear with the United Nationals' Regional Seas Program estimating more than 18,000 pieces of plastic in each square kilometre of ocean; and other research estimating more than 6 million tonnes of debris entering the world's oceans each year. The majority of this marine debris is plastic, which due to its chemical makeup is a long lasting material. Plastics, once released into the environment, never biodegrade, instead photodegrading breaking into smaller and smaller pieces of the original item, forever remaining in the environment.The Australian Marine Debris Initiative is a way that everyone can become involved in both the removal of marine debris and finding solutions to stop the flow of rubbish into our oceans. Ok this is new to me. Going off grid. I believe there is no shortage of energy. There is so much around we have to put sunscreen and hats on. Been charging up my ipad and phones with this this week ... and it feels good to be independant of the mains power.

It has been educational demanding and inspiring preparing for this. I will upload some photos of my touring board soon, hush hush, I was deep up the Nepean river this week with Jeff from Willow Warriors practising portages up river over slippery river stone races. I have 15 of these in a 20km stretch to reach the Penrith Weir. Cross trainers are on. :)))
