Spent the last 8 days with 2 more to go exploring Bali for the first time with SUP'S in the quiver. It's quite easy as we all know to travel with short boards but have found it just as easy to travel with SUP'S as well. As far as breaks go, we have found no animosity towards SUP's in the line up. As usual if you act respectively there are no issues. If anything we have found that there is more interest and fascination than anything?? we flew with Virgin Australia and although we still had to pay excess, it was the same amount as our short boards. Our size limit was just 10ft but I reacon you could almost sneak a 10ftr through. We bought 2 SUP's with us an 8'5 x 30" and a 7'4 x 23" for the gromy. Most days we have had plenty of swell so these have been perfect... If I had to choose one more board to bring it would have to be a 9'0" longboard style just for the smaller days. As anyone that has been here will know, not many of the cars have roof racks but most drivers are more than happy to just strap the boards to their roof, I would however recommend throwing a couple of 5m clamp straps in your board bag just in case. We also travelled with an Infinity sup, UV Cover. This has been the best thing we bought with us. This gives the drivers roof protection when travelling so you don't have to travel daily with a big bulky travel bag and also great protection from the intense sun when having a cold bintang on the beach after your session. There are places over here that you can hire boards through and if you only wanna cruise around these are great but if you are here for the surf, you want old faithful with you and you don't have to worry about it?????? Bali is an excellent SUP destination and we have made some great contacts this time around and happy to help anyone thinking about doing the trip. Hope this helps??

Yea mate, sitting at the chaplung as I reply hahaha. Just been hitting the beachys around Legian, Seminyak and Canggu mostly. Had some awesome days... went up to Sanur the other day but it was to small. We have a consistent 5-7 again today and copped a massive working at Seminyak but loved it. Will head to Kuta reef and Canggu tomorrow.

Get out to Kuta reef early as you can it get crowded and wind can get into it. Middles is the best option it's inbetween Kuta reef and airport lefts . Airport rights is always good too usually few sups out there. Good waves around chunguu and old mans if you can head to balian or medawi they are few hours up coast but super quiet and unreal waves

Yeah just had a week, used the boards at airport rights hired from Priority SUP, CHEAPEST price best vibe and new design boards. Mean v concave boards are really fast and rip. Just love sunset sup surf in Bali , the guys sup hard so no what your talking about when you come in jibbering about your surf, turns your 55 years into a grom with a Bintang

I went Qantas because I wanted to be sure of no hiccups, am stoked with that decision board was treated really well I saw it on top of all the luggage when transiting in Syd

qikdraw .... what size board, Im looking to take my 9'1 creek late june with qantas.

Qantas was a bad experience for me. Showed them the damage at the airport as soon as I picked up my board. Made the whole process of recouping the damage so complicated that after multiple emails and quotes I gave up.

8" but no one looked concerned or even asked the dimensions of the board

Nice to heat all good things about SUP surfing in Bali. Thought it was "hard" on SUP surfing.

Will add to the bucket list then.

where would be the best option in Bali and best time of year for an old intermediate who only wants to surf 3 foot waves?

just had a day at Medewi last week - 500m long walling left point break and quite mellow - not super heavy like Ulu's/Pedang/Bingin etc can get. 2-2.5 hr drive from Kuta but worth it. Bombora's accomodation is beautiful and right on the break.

Can get big but not super heavy. Prefers higher tides.

I'd heard bout a long point break in west Bali.... (the longest break on the island) so decided to take a look.

Lots of big boulder rocks on the break so just be a bit more careful on the lower tide. Also, best early before winds pick up as can quite easily get blown out.

The main break can still get busy with learner classes / beginner long boarders.

Most paddle out from the beach, not climbing over the rocks.

There is a right at the rivermouth a few hundred meters to the left of the break that is worth a look too.

Bombora's has a cafe overlooking the break which has amazing coffee (prob the best in Bali)... then the better half wanted to check out the rooms... about $180 aud a nite for a really nice room with a balcony overlooking the break. Up to $400ish a nite for a suite. $80 for a shared dorm style room I think...

Had a really good session there a few years ago with a few mates Hoppo, amazing place and a really fun wave, the religious chanting sets the tone that it is a different place to the breaks to the south.

Still really friendly place though, loved how you can get out after a session, jag a few crays with a couple of cold beers for bugger all and watch all the pics they guys take of you surfing before you decide how many pics you want to buy.
