Just getting into this downwind thing and discovered that sups don't want to stack on our roof racks like palicons. Besides the obvious of getting a trailer, any tips of stacking boards 3/4 high on roof racks. I'd love to think the wheel has already been invented

Fins off the bottom boards helps.

Pads between the boards is a good idea.

Did that, the pain was dealing with different design shapes. We are thinking of padding between boards with bits of pool noodles to get a better sit

Pool noodles are good as they are a bit thicker..

Can I suggest that you use two sets of straps if you are travelling a distance. One set on the first two boards and the second over the lot.

If top sets break you only have damage to one board. Best for distance not short runs.

Cheers.

ET.. So how does the convo go deciding whose board is the one that goes ontop in that instance haha.. Pull straws?

Pool noodles is what we use, have a collection of them in my car. cut some in half a half dome will make when stacking a board ontop of the other it won't role and in the right spot fits better than a full round noodle

Dave Kalama has a good idea where he uses the hollow pool noodles and fills them with sand and plugs the ends.. This makes them heavy so when you lift the top board off the pads don't go flying away in the wind.. I've had to chase mine down the road heaps of times and when it's really, really windy you can't even catch them.. Even when loading the pad stays in place while you lift the next board on.. One day I might make some.

Usually we will stack them in order of rocker - the one with the most rocker on the bottom, and so on...(usually) means less padding required and less overall height. Of course boards with tall noses like falcons and some others make it a bit more of a jigsaw puzzle but you get the idea...and pool noodles are the go, for sure.
