I have the 8'10" x 29" Speeed, but I have been thinking about the 10' Style for those smaller waves that could be good for nose riding and cruising.

They are both 29" wide and both 130 L.

I imagine that with the extra length I could catch the wave earlier on the Style.

Anyone ridden both and care to describe the differences?

No I am the opposite to you.............so equally keen on the FB - Mr Creek I reckon is the key to this question

I don't know anything at all about the boards in question but I can tell you that in SUPping style beats speed all the time.

That would be great - except I am about to go on a six week business trip Because of the long lead time on these boards, I was hoping to make a decision sooner.

Recently bought a 10`6 style for the small days and a bit of paddling when its flat. Very glad I did. Went the 10`6 over the 10`0 for a bit more volume paddling the flats. Happy to surf my 8`9 when the surfs pumping but I think the 10 / 10`6 size range is an almost must have size for the quiver. Does everything. Construction on the Sunova is A1 as well. Very solid construction. If your not getting your small sups out when it`s 1 to 2 ( like me ) then it`s an easy decision : )

hey cse, I'm nearly as much as a board tragic as you and would suggest you try DJs nalu, they will catch anything and are great fun on those 1 ft days. took mine out sunday arvo at my local only 1 ft, wouldn't have bothered on smaller boards, and got 30 fun waves in just over an hour... perhaps not as good a noserider or performance longboard as the style, but they actually surf really well in tiny and solid waves, are great for a bit of flatwater and family kids etc etc. just a thought - perhaps I was too easily influenced by DJs vids but I'm loving getting out on the nalu, and find it actually has helped my small board surfing. btw I have also recently picked up a gong 6 10 so I can try to channel another seabreeze vid star, colas (got a lot of work to do to master the short board like him!)

I've ridden both the 8'10" Speed and the 10' x 30" Style.
In my opinion they are both fun in small waves but of course, they are very different. The Speed does paddle extremely well for its length, but not as well as a 10 foot board. The Style surprised me actually. I wasn't expecting it to be as high performanCe as it is. I found that the board was incredibly easy to throw around due to how light it is. When making a top turn there is virtually zero swing weight. And the nose is very easy to ride.

I've been riding the 9'6 Style for the past few months and have a similar view to Zeusman. It has decent glide and catches pretty much anything. It's ridiculously light for a non carbon board, and very manoeuvrable. Can get a bit wobbly when it's choppy, but still very stable for a board that's only 27"ish wide and 112L. The fat nose helps in that regard.
Also the stock centre fin is enormous so I'm running a 6.5" dolphin.

But yes, the first step to recovery is to admit you have a problem.

Having said that, I still have a hole in my quiver about the size of a Style (or Nalu or Atlantis). Such problems...

cSe - I've got both the 10' Style & 8'5 Speeed & I'm currently waiting on the delivery of my 8'10 Speeed. IMO - the glide on the 8'5 Speeed is really impressive for it's length so I imagine the glide on the 8'10 will be even better?

That's not to say the glide on the 10' Style isn't superior given the extra length however it's got stiff competion from the Speeed...all light, narrow boards with straight rails.

Like all the Sunova boards I've tried thus far & as many have previously mentioned, the Style surfs great off the tail.

If you want a dedicated nose riding board in your quiver (which theoretically the Speeed isn't with it's pronounced nose rocker....although it is possible to get yourself a fair way forward on the board) + everything else that comes with the Sunova construction, the Style is a great choice.

Mainly because I already have a 10'6 Nalu (which I love) but at 5'10 and 73kg it's a whole lot of board for me. I was interested in longboard style riding with better manoeuvrability so the 9'6 fits the bill nicely.

Have you also considered the Nalu 10 x 29 LE? That's one sweet looking board...just a bit pricey though.

I have a nalu 10-6 and the style 10-0 and really they are very different sup's.The style is a much more manoeuvrable sup and as stated significantly lighter.
If you like to come of the top and do big cutties squirting full rail turns etc,then the style is your best option.I also think it's a better nose rider, if it was 10-6 it would be a significantly superior nose rider than the nalu.
The nalu 10-6 is a great all round sup, more stable and a better paddler than 10-0 style.
I think a lot will depend on your weight ,the medium to light weight paddlers might find the nalu a bit big for recovering from critical positions as quickly as you can on the style.

I am not really looking for an all-purpose sup, and I also think that if the waves were suitable for cut-backs, etc. then I might be on my Speeed (or Minion or ...). I am thinking of those days with nice little waves where the glide of the Style would be handy, and days that really lend themselves to nose-riding.

I'm 5'10 and 100 kgs and the 10' x 30.5 is the perfect fit for riding up the front. IMHO

Just noticed that the Styles are a lot thinner then the Speeeds. Does that make the rails more thinned out or is the deck just a little flatter? Curious if it makes any feel difference surfing and/or paddling.

Nah sorry Wicksy. The shop I bought from only had the smaller one in stock at the time. I'd imagine the XL would be fairly similar- just a bit easier to stand on when you're waiting out the back.

I think you have answered your own question, you just need some confirmation.
Go the 10'6 at 148L, its 18L more volume than your Speed, which is the same volume as the 10' Style unless you are going the XL
I think unless you go the 10'6 you may be disappointed in the glide and paddle for those small days.
I haven't ridden any Sunova boards yet but have a 10'6 Nalu GT which I love for all the reasons you have stated and it sounds by the reports the Style is a slightly better nose rider.
