I've noticed for some time now the number of posts and views has dramatically decreased on this site.

Where has everybody gone? What site are they using now?

Cheers

Could be that it's winter in the southern states?
Although i'll also add there are a lot less SUP surfers where I live than a few years back. Some have moved onto foils, many back to prone surfing.

The standupzone forum gets less hits than seabreeze imo...

Wingding and foil are busiest. SUP is not as popular as it was, surf and dw/race have really dropped off here.

It's also because it's the same old same old, no offence to people who are new to the sport or to this forum but it's just repetitive.

Most using Facebook Groups now...more user friendly. And agree that SUP surfing has lost out a bit to foil these days and hardly ever see anyone on the big boards doing downwinders. Remember how popular the Standup Zone was...tumbling weed over there now! These sites which don't evolve will eventually die off.

I think post on SUP media has dramatically decreased because of:
- less people SUP: a lot of experienced SUPer have "move" to foiling in all its forms
- SUP is not seen a "new intriguing thing to try", so few new people arrive.
- SUP has "matured", both in gear and technique, engaging in involved discussions seem not worth it as repetitive (as opposed to just drop a few words on facebook)

And for seabreeze specifically, I think the admin(s) misread their market: seabreeze seems designed for "instant chat": you cannot edit the posts after some time, searching is cumbersome, old threads tend to disappear from view (they even are auto-removed from your subscribed topics), there is no simple way to get the URL of a post, there is no RSS feed, ... . They promote present discussions rather than trying to build a knowledge base. This means it positions itself in the same ecological niche as facebook, instagram, etc... while being technically inferior (posting images, managing threads, ...), while suffering from the image problem of forums that spells "dinosaur" for a lot of people.

I must say I use a lot the Gong forum, as it can be used as a knowledge base (or a wiki). We can co-construct there posts that can be maintained, so on facebook we just have to posts links to it (e.g. to the Donaldson trailing edge), avoiding having to repeat oneselves constantly.
But even on the Gong forum, there is now 1 SUP post for 50 (if not 100) foil posts.

Yeah. I'm guilty of going to SUP foiling & winging too. It was & challenge surf foiling but no so much now that I have learn't that. Now it's winging. More to learn there.
SUP was the same & I learnt a lot from this site. And I basically have the boards I need. But want a more performance SUP if I had room for storage!!!!!
But anyway. I feel sorry for those that have sold off their SUPs thinking foiling & winging is better. To me it's different and an awesome feeling to go SUP surfing when foiling gets a bit boring.
I would have more posts on this site if I had more time for surfing. I would still like to experience the difference of my quobba fins to my other fins. But don't get much of a chance to try this out on consecutive days to really know the difference. Plus body injuries don't help my recovery after a surf.
Hope this site keeps on keeping on.

I've been out of the water since March with a total shoulder replacement operation.

During that time with heaps of spare time I too noticed that the Sup forum traffic and posts has dramatically dropped off.

Even the buy and sell section has gone quiet........maybe winter quiet or the sport has slowed down in general.

I started 17 years ago in the early stages when the whole SUP world evolved in a super quick fashion and I think it has now peaked and slowed. Board design has plateaued as well IMO. Not many new and innovative designs to choose from atm . Many diy and local shapers seemed to have dropped off also.

Definitely less Sup riders at my local breaks now. (which is good)

Keep the stoke alive guys.

Keepin' the stoke alive Wazza
I still come here fairly often. The tips and tricks I've picked up from you blokes over the last decade have been invaluable. I'd still be floundering on oversize pop outs, not enjoying myself as much.
Right now I'm refining my favourite board to fine tune it, hopefully to be a quiver killer. All thanks to the breeze.
Who cares if everyone is foilin' and wingin'. Sup surfing is my happy place. And all the mum's and dads falling off their cheap inflatables are just making me feel better about my progress.
Keep enjoying what you do

Forgot to mention that I'm back in the water finally 2 weeks ago since my op in March. Still got a fair way to go regarding rehab but still have the stoke for SUP riding. Watching guys sitting up to their armpits whinging about not getting enough waves whilst I am having a blast on my 10 footer makes me appreciate how lucky we are to be involved in this sport.

To get back on the board after 4 months is so good for the soul. Without SUP surfing I would never have been able to surf again.

Keep posting pics of your boards and fin setups and get some traffic up here again.

I'm sure Colas will reply with something interesting from his part of the world

I live in a different world, where SUP surfing is as passionate as ever!
Because of my YouTube channel and all the people I consult about all things SUP, I am in constant contact with super stoked SUPsters from every corner of the Globe every day, so I never feel any slow down in SUP surfing at all. They are out there

Some have gone to foil, but most stay with normal Surf SUPs

We have 4 good breaks that are filled with SUP surfers every day. I have to go out before sunrise to beat the crowds! We get along well with the surfers and mix in every peak on the coast without issue. The good SUPsters mix more at the "A"team surf breaks and the rest stick pretty much to the softer breaks, so things are still flowing along in my world

At home we have a large variety of waves to surf, most are sup friendly, if there is swell you can normally find a wave. An ideal place to live and SUP. In the 10 years I've been on a sup, (after major back surgery), the number of people on SUP's have noticeably decreased. Some have gone to foils the others have just disappeared, and there are very, very few newcomers. In the meantime the number of longboarders have increased enormously. So maybe as those longboarders age and bodies deteriorate a new surge of suppers may slowly appear.
The problem with having fewer suppers around is there is less motivation for suppliers to carry sups and sup equipment, especially given the extra bulk of sups, and less motivation for producers to carry out r&d of sups. Whilst empty line ups are never a bad thing, they may well come at a cost

Here, its is the number of people on foam longboards that have exploded.

It seems that in France a lot of people started surfing during the covid years, as with a lot of outdoors activities, and they just keep on using the type of boards they learnt on without investing really themselves into surfing.

Still here just not SUP surfing as much . To be honest aggression at local break has significantly increased with uptake in prone surfing since covid . Feels like people
are much more selfish these days so it has become a lot more stressful . I would SUP surf 60-70 times a year but now down to once or twice a month. Has become a pain and not a stress release as it once was . Just too many people at local break and less respect

I agree and not necessarily about the craft people have become real picks and I also find it less enjoyable signed longboarder
