Up for any ideas good or bad.

I have a Sunova Steeze which has a slippery deck pad. I need to wax it everytime I take it in the surf. I have slipped off it plenty of times without wax. The deck pad on my Sunova Speed is fine.

Does anybody have a solution other than waxing it each session?

2. sandpaper ( rough grit )
3. Booties
4. new grip

Probably some oil residus from the factory...use dry sand to rub on the deck otherwise as micksmith said.

Do you place your SUP into a travel bag wet? Could be mold from not drying effectively.

No it is not new and no mildew. It is treated the same as all other boards and it is the only deckpad I find slippery.

I have been thinking about cutting parts of the deck pad out but it is far easier to wax everytime I go out.

I did consider a new deck pad but the expense put me off. This is one of the best sup deck pads going.

I have not tried this on a deck pad but ,Gorrilla grip spray from Bunny's ,$10 a can ;it's all I use on my noserider sups,I find the nozzle supplied with it to be not satisfactory for fine spaying,so I swap it out for a normal spray paint can nozzle,as you only need a fine coverage,good luck !

Here is video showing a closeup of the kind of mini-grooves you want to have on a pad: the grooves of the new 2023 Gong pads, which are flat to ease getting in and out of straps, but with traction provided by the grooves.

You could try to (re-)create these grooves with a coarse sandpaper, or a rotating metal brush, or...

A quick fix that I had good results with was spraying a slippery pad with contact cement.
I like the sanding idea, I will have to try that.

Your mileage may vary but so far a single application has been enough.

Just throwing it out there. I saw a guy put a layer of epoxy and then some salt/sugar/sand on the pads for them to last longer. I presume that they would also have more grip.

Brushing/sanding them with rough sandpaper or a metal brush works really well but keep in mind that some pads aren,t closed cell but only the topcover and can get very heavy when they open up.
Cheapest/easiest way I found so far is the gorilla grip spray or epoxi and grip-powder.


I tried cutting out pads, but found it uncomfortable to stand on.
