I've got aero roofracks with just the thin strip of rubber on top. Would it be more secure to place the SUP straight on top of the bare roofracks or use some foam like a split pool noodle to be inbetween the rack and the SUP?

I'm just worried about driving at highway speeds.

"Blue Planet" has a good video on how to transport boards on roof racks. Generally a good idea to put some type of padding on top of the bare bars. The straps exert quite a bit of force and you can damage your board if no padding. I use Dakine rack pads. They are easy to put on and take off with velcro attachments.

Lockracks are problematic for race boards. I had to cut on down to use for the back and the front just doesn't fit the SIC RS at all.

+1 for the Dakine Rack pads.

If your board is in a bag they're not always necessary but if you carry a board without a bag they are a must...

I use Rino Rack pads, drove to Qld and back approx 400km no bag no issue just bugs to wash off. In a bag I don't worry about it. Just strap it on and go for it boards have been transported that way for decades with rare problems.

Don't know about race board sizing problems with Lockrack but surf sups are great using lockrack, so easy so fast so secure. No affiliation just a very happy user

Am another one for LockRack or should I say 2, as both cars LockRack now. So easy, Mrs enjoying the ease of use with long Sups on wind days.

For my allrounders they are good except I can't fit them because I carry the race board more than the allrounders.
If they were sold as singles so I could buy a wider one with kayak arms and a narrow one ( would still have to truncate it) with the shorter arms , but then they wouldn't fit the allrounders.

For longer distances and speed over 100 km/h I only takes sub 8 foot SUP board, use additional strap that wraps around underneath car roof or at least the existing side bars, and use pads on bars and some foam material where tie downs press on top of board
