Hi all,
Anyone been able to SUP in the Melbourne or Sydney wave pool?
Looks like I've scored an opportunity to surf it next week. Not definite yet??
I have been told a have to have a leg/arm/body rope to my paddle. Any suggestions? I'm thinking a coiled body board arm ropeAre there any tricks I need to know before I go? I've been there a few times and watched it thinking the take off is doable but they wouldn't let me in the water with a paddle.

I was at the Sydney pool on Saturday (only watching) and was told no SUP's. Looks good standing above where they were taking off. If I am too old and feeble to try it on my old eight foot 7S fish I might give it a go on a bodyboard. Please tell us how you go after your session.

Hey Nudger,
That's awesome. Can I ask under what circumstances they are letting you SUP?
I too have been told no SUPs, not even in private bookings.

I'd be very surprised if you were allowed, you can't in Melbourne. After surfing it a couple of times I'd have to say it would be extremely difficult on a SUP

Yep, not allowed in the Melb pool. Even on private bookings. Pretty tough to get into position so quickly to catch the wave.

A Sup'r would have to go first on each set as it comes through... It would be the only way to make it work IMO, but unfair on everyone else.

I got in,

surfed last Tuesday and again on Thursday. It appears I was the first to SUP in any pool they operate. I got a few looks when I turned up. Only surfed two sessions. It was a development/ bonding day put on by the company I work for. We hired the whole pool for an hour both lefts and rights so we could swap from one side to the other and they allowed me to surf, with a helmet, leg rope and rope on my paddle. Yes Happo3228, the First wave is the easiest . We started at cruiser mode and went through to advance turns. It got harder and harder to catch waves. I only caught two waves in the first session and about 6 in the second session. I changed boards to a bigger volume between sessions. There is a lot of water moving, it's like surfing a rip bowl but very little room to move. My biggest problem was it was dragging me off the take off point and into the mesh fence where the wave is generated from. As soon as you get side ways and hit the fence it flips you off. When I work out how to retrieve the footage from there site and up load to this one I'll do it. It was fun but tiring. I also know and worked with everyone in the water so they gave me room but they we're getting the ****s when I blow some of them.

I've recently had a session at Lostshore Edinburgh Scotland. Opened it up as a taster session, see if they can make it work. Tried with surf kayaks as well on different day.
Was on crusier wave, tricky to stay in position at start but once dialled in easy to catch wave. Managed 14 waves in the hour.

not something I would regularly pay for, expensive fix.
