Hi All,

Im a recent convert to this suping business and am totally hooked. After purchasing a fanatic ray a couple of months ago I've been out fairly regularly doing 8-12k runs in the canning. Usually a loop front the mt Henry to Riverton bridge and back early on a weekend morning. A little frustrated at the moment as I can't seem to average more than 6-6.5 km/h (according to the tomtom gps) over that distance and I don't feel like I'm dawdling - I'm giving it a decent go! I'd say my stroke rate is over 50 per minute and trying to use good form. I consider myself reasonably fit.
Does anyone else paddle around there who'd be willing to come out for a paddle earlt on a weekend morning and give me a few pointers? Are there any Sup clubs / groups that use the canning regularly for training looking for a keen newbie?!

Cheers to all for any replies / pointers to improve speed!

HI Jaffa,
SUPWA have the Black Blade on at Champion Lakes this Sunday - supwa.tidyhq.com/public/events/7279-the-2017-starboard-black-blade

There is a PaddleLoop on for 12' style boards and a great opportunity to get tips and watch some of the top paddlers in WA compete. Actually, you can watch the best Paddler in the World paddle, SUP World Champ Michael Booth will be competing!

See you there!

Goochi,

Thanks for the response. Sounds like a great event, I'll try and get up there!

i think there used to be a SUPWA pod that trained around deepwater point although I can't find any contact details on the website- do you know if it still exists?

cheers

HI Jaffa

Yes there used to be a Deep Water Point Pod a couple of years ago. They now train with Fremantle. There are two pods at Fremantle, training 0530 in the morning.
1. Bicton Pod - Monday, Wednesday & Friday. Meet at Bicton Baths
2. Fremantle Pod - Tues, Thurs & Saturday. Meet at Swan Yacht Club

All levels, All welcome. (Fremantle can be a bit more intense on a 12' board though - but if you like to train hard it's great!)
