Have a particularly annoying Rhomboid strain that has kept me out of the water for a few weeks now, at first I was 100% on not SUPing until it was 100% gone...fast forward a few weeks and it has gotten a little better but still there and I am going a little bit mad.

Has anyone else SUP'd with this injury and did it make it worse? I know the best way to find out is to give it a go but thought I would just ask in any case.

Not being in the water is killing me, best time of year and I am stuck high and dry!!

Souwester - I hear ya mate.
I got clobbered a fortnight ago - snapped my paddle in two and blew my knee out. Lip came down and pushed the knee sideways.
It's not a rhomboid - but it kept me out of the water for a couple of weeks. Still sore to kneel and run
I went out yesterday for the first surf, was still sketchy but snagged some good ones.
It's funny, I was having a yarn to another bloke out in the water and was saying the same thing - I reckon I was a miserable prick for two weeks eh! Kicked the dog and listened to Metallica - missing out on waves definitely takes its toll!
Hang in there cobber - my thinking is just get that shoulder/rhomboid right I reckon - the last thing you want to do is rush it, completely blow it out and spend a couple of months out.
Have a beer, crank some tunes, put a surf vid on and have a laugh - you'll be back in the water before you know it!

Hi Sou'wester. What haven't I had. Currently strapping my left wrist due to pulling the paddle around after falling off in 3 hour sessions! It's just another injury that has come on after a few others. I am wondering what's next. Just previously left side back went on me just from paddling out on my second day in a row. But better after 1 to 2 week break. The back muscles & shoulders seem to be affected the most. And yes. I had a lot of rhomboid pain that has lasted for about a year or more on and off. But surprisingly has virtually disappeared recently. I surf about 2 times after every week of work. But my job is not physical so the rhomboids get rested. Hot shower over the rhomboids help I think. So yeah. If your job doesn't use your rhomboids then get out there & surf. But try to keep your sessions short & see how you feel a few days after. If the same or worse then rest more or another week break until you find some improvement. Have fun.

Sounds good mate, I am learning more about how the strain occurs and what I can do to prevent in future. Really keen on a small session and just taking it easy. It's getting better each day - we got swell coming next week..
