I was surfing down south on my Naish Mana 9 ft 6 . SUP instructor there looked at my board and said it did not have much rocker , was square back, not a great sup surfing board .. more a river board. Also said my paddle was old style , big blade and to long. Trend is smaller paddle , shorter.

Im 180cm 86 kg keen to get a better surfing SUP set up. Any board , paddle recommendation s

great in surf, my 9'6 and 10'ers are classics designed by Harold Iggy and are keepers in any quiver.... definitely not a "River board" although the older ones are a bit dated.

Fine to learn on at your size, but a bit big, once you are ready to step down.

A good place for you to start is possibly around 9' x 31" at 130 liters

I agree with Creek,found the mana had to much rocker when I was learning!And I loved Harolds longboard sups,,unfortunately construction issues let them down,and I moved on.

The new Surf Board Warehouse in Scabs has the range of Evoke. Can't go past the price and performance in my opinion. Either the 8'6 or 9'2 at your height/weight would be a huge performance boost!

No.

It is insanely hard, as it is very narrow and unstable. It is fun for a circus-like circus challenge, like standing on a tree trunk in the water. But totally impossible to surf with it and have any kind of fun.

But I've also heard ( seen )there's been some quality issues with some starboard pros, ie delaminating.
My 2017 starby pro is rock solid, why on earth they would change a good thing is beyond me.

long time no see! Hope you're going well, we'll catch up one day..........

Heard some good stuff about Infinity (from California) last December, so I contacted Matt, the local distributor, and he put me on to a guy who had the perfect 10-footer (to complement my 8'7" JL Kwad, moved my 11' CBC on) for me to demo, 27" wide, 122 litres volume, the New Deal. Met him down the river, East Freo. Carbon, very lightweight, great stability for a narrow board, and the construction has had nothing but rave reviews.
Matt had one left, no more of that model worldwide till March this year. They're pretty pricey, but we're talking about the top of the wazza here, thought what the hell, I'll keep it for years, so lashed out and bought it! So glad I did, beautiful board, best I've ever owned, carbon, lightweight (7 kgs). Just waiting for some better waves..............

For a better surfing sup set-up for you, what about around a foot shorter than your 9'6" Naish? Matt has an 8'5" x 30" B-Line (114.5 litres), or if you prefer a fuller nose, he's got the RNB in the same length, wider with more volume (31", 133.5 litres). nextlevelsup.com.au/products/infinity-b-line
The New Deal's are coming in March I think (if you can wait that long), check with Matt. Another one for you could be the 9' x 28" (104 litres). Currently Sold Out according to Matt's website.

Always gonna be concerns with quality when someone can do such a cheap product. My mate has had 2 evokes with no issues and I couldn't be happier with the 8'6 that I've had for over half a year now. I had a list of boards 10 deep that I wanted to buy, but as soon as Surf Board Warehouse moved to Scabs I was in! No freight charge so I was in and out under $900 for a new board which is a massive upgrade in performance!

I have only just read your reply ..I have already taken the plunge. I rationalised my toys , sold two surfboards i haven't used in years , and visited surfboard warehouse ., rush of blood!! and bought an evoke. 9ft 2" carbon fibre.
i have taken it out at boat ramps Gnarabup Margaret River and so far Im wrapped . Wider than my Naish mana, very stable. seems fast on waves and turns really beautifully . Slightly slower paddling . Loving the board.
I also updated my paddle . I tried out a YOB paddle down south..smaller blade, very light weight cf with my old carbon fibre paddle. I really liked the paddle so i bought one of those too. Cut it down so it's only just head height.

The infinity looks good. Might see you at Cott and we can compare.

Evoke looks awesome Jeremy, I'll keep an eye out for you now I know what colour sup you're riding

YOB sup in Bicton better than sbwh.

YOB has some good gear. Nothing compared to the smaller size evokes for performance and bang for buck though.

Hey Kela, go check out the Surf Pro range (SP) at the YOB shop. they smash Evoke for performance and construction, talk direct to the owners and you will get a deal. Local west Oz family run business.

Yeah Heardy, YOB are definitely starting to do some good stuff in their surf design. Toyed with buying heaps of boards over the last year or so. The clincher was when Surfboard Warehouse opened in Scabs, saving me the postage from over East! I can see myself progressing on the 8'6 Evoke for at least another year or 2.....the search will be on again!

Anyone who says a Naish Mana is more of a river board has never paddled on a river.
