Hi, I'm just wondering if anyone knows a good place/s to SUP in the Illawarra. I'm in Far Meadow, and don't want to travel too far and Im also not really ready for the surf just yet. I used to paddle in Jervis Bay when I lived further south, but now I've moved up here and not sure where is a good place to go. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated ????

Minnamurra River estuary just north of Kiama is nice, flat and clean water, and occasionally a fun little wave at the mouth. Otherwise, the creek at the north end of Gerringong Beach is also a fun little paddle, also flows into the surf.

Windang. Either side of the bridge. In the bay at Bellambi towards the boat ramp. Usually no surf there but can have waves in the right conditions so look for a bit before paddling out. Lake Illawarra. Just doesn't look very inviting with the colour of the water.

+1 for Minamurra river... and the lake Illawarra entrance at Windang. Lots of space to flat water paddle and generally quite sheltered.

Little lake at the south end of Warrilla Beach is also good for a play and an easy spot to have a play on small runners.

If you are interested, the Illawarra SUP Club will be having a kick off meet up and paddle at Reddall Parade on the Warilla side of the lake entrance on 07 Nov.... 0730 to somewhere around 1000. You (and anyone else reading) are more than welcome to drop in and say gidday. we are hoping to kick off a social and (slightly) competitive round of events in 2022 for anyone keen in the Illawarra (or beyond). Anywhere in Lake Illawarra is great. Park your car at one end, paddle across and then get someone to pick you up the other end....just make sure whoever picks you up has the car running....****ing lunatics live all around the shore of this lake. Albion Park, Warilla, Warrawong, Dapto, Berkeley West etc etc. Too many stories.
