I will be in Exmouth in about 10 days for a week and I was wondering whether it was a "special" place to SUP. I want to dive on the reef, and most of the time I am at a holiday place (Sal Salis) with my wife. But I am wondering whether I should try to SUP-surf there or just focus on diving - after all, I have world-class surfing on Westernport Bay right at my doorstep

And if you recommend SUPing, would you recommend a good place to hire them? And how easy is it to get to the better SUPing locations?

I can't help with your question, but the WA boys should be online later after their 20km flat water classic is finished to answer your question, but im heading down soon with my race board on my RDO to go paddling, hopefully get a day for a bit of DW action, if not ill go paddle yardi creek gorge.

One of my favourite holiday destinations.

Maybe Sandy Bay or Sandy Point (think that's what its called) Anyway its down near Yardi Creek crossing, about 20 odd k's south from Exmouth in the National Park. Flat water and reef protected, so you can do both there.
No idea if you can hire gear up there like SUP's, but check tourist centre before you travel to find out.

Yardie Creek looks pretty good for a paddle, and after a bit of googling it seems there are a few surf break so I will try and rent a board and give it a go if the conditions look good.

PM turtlehunter for more info he has a kite school/shop and I think I saw some sup rentals one day. Just spent my usual 2 weeks up there. Great spot.

The guys at Exmouth Kitesurf will have all the info, superb spot, I,ll dig out the website for you.

Hi @ cantSUPenough Tom from Exmouth Kite Centre here. You're right, we are definitely in full swing of our windy season meaning that we can get days of wall to wall strong winds making SUP hard work.

However, if you have a little bit of flexibility there will definitely be opportunities to score waves and also great flat water paddling.

We offer hire and have a range of more performance SUP's for the surf. We are based out at the Lighthouse Caravan Park so right on the wave locations meaning you can check swell then decide if you want to hire.

Gday Mate, I travelled the West Coast in July August with the family, stayed at Lighthouse CPark, people that run it very nice, We would sit on the sand junes watching whales and the guys sup surfing out there, as inexperiened suppers way to much for us but it looked awesome.
We did great snorkleing off the sups at Coral Bay not far from Exmouth, check out Ningaloo seakayak and sea scooter hire at Coral Bay. The sea scooters are a great way to sea the reef. Worth a thought.

No idea what you talking about, there's no waves out the front of the Lighthouse
