Has anyone done it?

Went snapper fishing on Port Phillip Bay the other night on my 14' x 25" dugout race board. Only got 1 under sized snapper. Was all good till a massive seal as big as the board appeared out of the dark right next to me.

Attached a small esky with rod holders and take off.
Great fun and always get a feed of squid at least. Best part is it's normally from my surf spots on flat days :)

I wonder how it would go down at Browns beach but I reckon you'd have to stay out of range of the beachies casting range lol I'm going to take some squid gear and a light rod down to corny in November.

Done a fair bit of trolling and casting lures.......Be careful ....Small fish attract bigger fish.

Fishing for calamari over the weed beds is my favourite ..

lazy-man method. made this based on an idea i found here a few years ago. this was my maiden voyage on the thing. since then i've added a rod holder and caught a bunch of fish. all you need is some big pvc pipe, a milk crate, a stadium seat and some bungey cords. looks goofy but i look goofy too so, hey, it works for me!

Firstly it's not that plausible at Browns as you wouldn't be able to walk all you gear down in one go. Stuff going up and down that hill more times than you have to let alone carrying a 10+kg SUP.
Secondly, it's not the sort of place you need a SUP. If you fish it right a bream stick and some soft plastics is all you need there.

Places like the back of Porties reef is good for salmon trolling and I find Seaford around Triggs and Uees in less than 10ft of water the go to spots for squid.

You'll do well in the flats at Corny. Should be able to scrounge up a small school of salmon at Berry Bay as well.

When I go sup fishing I tie about 3m of line to thong and and a scented plastic attached to the end, seems to go alright

Yeah had a couple of goes on the 10'10" stable table, good fun. The only time I had trouble was hooking up a ray in a busyish channel! Of course it sucked down to the bottom and I was in all sorts. Pretty much let the drag right off and headed for the nearest sand bar. Other than that SUP fishing is a great way to silently glide over the top of your targets and then gear up. Not sure how it would end up hooking anything of size though.....

nice set up mate I think I'll just have a milk crate tied down with a occy strap. Yeah I used to live at hardwicke bay and go down to Browns regularly. That soft sand is a killer and don't remind me about that hill lol.. I and a mate used to drive down to the northern end of browns along time ago but you can't do that now the walk was a bit shorter from where we used to park. not the tourist park!

It's great fun. I paddle for training up my nearby river along the snags and bank and always get a feed of bream etc. my board is only a short 9' surf shape so I can't use a seat but I made a rod holder that's dead easy. Buy a large double suction cup end glass carrier from eBay which you can suck onto the nose of the board. In the middle handle part I then attached a standard rail mounted boat rod holder from bias boating etc. I made up a short rod with an alvey rod held in by a short occy strap and troll along. I use an alvey, as any eggbeater will quickly die if I get turned over. Dead easy rod mount and you just unclip it when not used. Cost about $30 all up.
