Good stuff! Thanks for posting Casso, being a goofy TC was one of my surf heroes growing up. Good to see he still rips on a SUP!

Excellent vid Casso thanks!
Never seen Tom sup before, but loved the polished combo of longboard and shortboard moves.

I'm sorry, but that's one of the ugliest things I've ever seen. Those layback-on-the-paddle bottom turns make me throw up. To think that my childhood hero, he of "The Snap" at Pipe, has sunk so low.

have to agree with you Legion, while the conditions were horrible for sup and can be very hard there, I have seen other goofy footed sup riders surf greeny that would have looked better, maybe maybe not???....it is what it is and it ISNT shortboarding

in saying that Im sure Tom rips compared to most of us and I know ill never be at that level...

I guess I just expected more from him....

pretty sure he was just playing around out there from what I saw. I think you would eat your words well and truely if you saw him riding the SUP in the bigger stuff mate, and also judging on his form in hawaii and at Pipe this season he is stepping it up and not sinking anywhere.

Hey, don't me wrong, I've loved his recent stuff with RCJ in Storm Surfers. But I'll stand by my comments 100% - those layback "bottom turns" (can't even call them that) and struggling with that overvolumed board while Occ and Pottz and Tom Curren still rip it up on shortboards is hard to watch.

i got to say i also expected more, but in those conditions on his backhand it would be tough and just paddling around in the east messy swell is no waltzin the park. surfing well or hp backhand on sups is hard unless you have a certain type of wave.

mind you i still rate some of dogman back handsurfing vids as the best backhand sup i've seen.

put tc on his forehand in those type of waves things would be different

Tom looked like he was just cruising. I'm sure if he knew that the SUP forums of the world were going to treat his performance as a life changing event and create possible acceptance by the mainstream surfing population he would have treated it as such.

Some of the people on the zone are almost treating the moment as the coming of the messiah.

Don't get ahead of yourself . I'm yet to see any acceptance by any mainstream surfing population, at least in online forums.

Spoke to some shortboard crew today who were raving about after seeing it on tv,
everyone has there own opinion of it and I reckon he wasn't out there to win anything just to show how fun it is to a big audience,

great that it upsets you Legion,
keep sooking.

I Am glad sup is not liked by the 'mainstream' surfing pop when i started surfing surfers were not liked by the main stream of anything, we were a bunch of dirty good for nothings.
Now the surfing mainstream seem to be a bunch of robots that worry about what
product is in their hair what boardies they wear and the board they ride must be approved by whatever wanker is on the latest billabong add.
Thank **** these wankers dont approve of what i ride

SUP guys know how difficult it would have been in those conditions, especially on the backhand!
Few nice cross steps in sucky & bumpy slop.

I was stoked this morning a surfer came and surfed the bank we were on because there were no
other surfers on it. We let plenty through and he got plenty. He said he was over the surfer bullsht
in the line-up, feeling like he was being judged by everyone else in the water. I have other mates
(shortboarders) that feel the same way. It's by no means all surfers.

It was his first surf with SUP's and he will be telling his friends of the great session we all had.

Not having a go at anyone, just telling the story of a good morning session.
Some people accept it and some don't, who cares.
