Want to pull an old paddle apart as back up for o/s trip. I plan to hot glue as per ke Nalu. Any blues on breaking superglued bond of 7-8 years.

Heat will possibly work on the superglue as well... worth a try.

I have also heard that Coke will dissolve superglue.... haven't tried it myself but it wouldn't surprise me.....

Heat gun worked for me.

Heat gun usually does the trick.. I got desperate once and use boiling water

Point taken. No success so far with too hot to touch and loath to bugger an old but good paddle.

If it's jammed solid and you don't mind shortening it by an inch, cut it directly below the handle then you can use a drill or a chisel to get the remainder out of the handle.

I left my hot melt glued paddle in my car on the weekend, when the temp hit 40 degrees. The heat inside the car melted the glue and expanding air inside the shaft pushed the handle out nearly 1cm! That was despite the car's sunroof being ajar and the front windows being 1-2 inches open.

Unfortunately it's the blade end stuck. I need blade removed to shorten overall length for travel.

I never had trouble removing handles, but some failures with the blade. I guess the carbon there is thicker so it is a tricky job to heat enough to melt the glue but not the epoxy of the blade and shaft. One blade worked OK, the other the shaft folded when I tried to remove it.

I would try in a controlled temperature environment first, e.g. boiling water.

NO HEAT GUNS
that works for hot glue, but it buggers epoxy. Hot glue melts before epoxy. Hot glue melts just enough in say 80C water, but epoxy returns to normal. A heat gun can get it to 150C real quick and bugger both parts. So boiling water soak may work for some glues but if it doesn't work then don't try more heat!!!

Superglue will not be affected by heat. It melts at 180C which is far more than your shaft can take
It is dissolved by acetone, which only slightly affects properly cured epoxies and vinylester resins.
You need to soak acetone into that joint over a long time, gonna be hard to keep it in the lip / join by slowly dripping it in.

(moral - don't use superglue)

Anyway if shortening - cut it off.

Then you just need to get the shaft off the ferrule of the handle or blade.
Use a Dremel to cut verrry verrry carefully through the shaft only (lengthwise)
Then stick a screwdriver in the cut and twist. You will break the old shaft off the ferrule more easily than you think
