I'm looking to salvage a few broken paddles & need to separate blades from shafts. What's the best way to do this? Will heat work on factory glue? thanks in advance

Yes, but I had 50% success. Since the blade part has more material that the handle, it is quite tricky to leave enough time for the heat to reach the epoxy or glue binding the paddle to the shaft without softening too much the parts and destroying them when applying torque.

I guess it depends on your paddle. My only advice is apply very little force, and if it resists, re-heat.

I know the Gong shaper prefers to just cut the shaft and grind away the shaft part inside the blade with a dremel. But I would not attempt it without a professional mask, carbon fiber dust is not something you want to inhale.

Thanks, I'll try heat first then go with the cut and die grinder method depending on the result.

the paddles are Sunova Naish quickblade & king paddle

If you have to remove the inside don't use die grinder. Easy to go too far. Use half a hacksaw blade to cut inside to allmoooost thru. Then a flat blade screwdriver to twist in the cut. It usually breaks out nicely, then u can sand with a dowel and some 120grit to get a lovely undamaged blade ferrule

but hopefully it's hot glue and heat does it. Epoxy is a lot more heating so I would not.
