Can anyone recommend a club to join around Wollongong or not to far north or south of there?(travelling from Picton area)
im thinking of doing some flat water racing to push my fitness along.
My current board is probably not the best for racing it's a Naish Quest 11.2.

Unfortunately North Sydney or Husky are the nearest.
There seams to be only a couple of us here who train on flatwater.
We do have a small downwind group who are out whenever there is wind.
Upgrading your board to a 14ft would be a good idea.

Hi all,
what speed and distance do you train at as an average?

Go for a paddle with Crazybula - every paddle for him is a race...

I am interested in what is expected as average speed. I paddle on my own and have no idea if I am slow or very slow.
last paddle average was 5.8km/hover 9.8km.

Lots of variables to determine that.
Wind
Tide
Type of Board
Depth of water
How hard your pushing yourself

Lake channel speeds vary greatly cause of the tide.
Paddle this course 2.5km down and 2.5km back in light winds.
It will give you a better indication of average speed.
Stick to the middle for deepest water and follow my line at the split in creek.

8km flatwater race this Saturday at Sand and sea festival Husskison.
That'll give you an indication of where your at.

Ok this is from my last trip with my Naish Glide 14x29 up and back on the Pambula River and it was all glass and no tide that I could see. No average speed but the top speed was going pretty much flat out, also I had previously hit 14km per hour on another glassy day and my average was usually between 4-6km per.

Second to my last post I had asked some guys who paddle a lot what is a good speed and was told that Pro paddlers can hold their speed around 10km per. Most people average 6-9 for some distance and top speed varies depending on conditions such as wind, swell, DW bumps. I have a 10 ft boards as well and now a Carbon 14ft and speeds are all about the same, it's the length of time you can hold that speed that matters in a race.
