No Excel Race on the Gold Coast anymore? Can't believe with the number of people training and paddling in SE Queensland that there isn't at least 5 or 6 races in a year?!!

I had a look on Surfing QLD and nothing is up yet for this year.

last year Xcel Race was in June and the Roar Comp was at the end of May.

As a group, I think we should be deciding on what is "The Nationals" for SUP Distance Down Wind Racing.

And weather we it should be ran as a Surfing Australia Sanction, or with the OC's.

Decide between;
- creating an event
- run with OC Aus Nationals in Coffs
- nominate an existing event
- held in Melbourne with DJ as Event Director, with a waiting period, so it can be run on a sunny Nor' Wester !! (*)
- other.....

Just throwing it out there. Not sure what discussions have already taken place. Probably needs its own thread.... to gather opinions and options.... ???

how about a summer sprint series for those on the coast anyway, say a series of bridge to bridge sprint races on currumbin creek make it twilght thing every second week.Could make it a handicap event after a few races so Jacko doesent win every race, or have some time trial stages , set the bridge to bridge record.Those with surf sups could participate in a shorter race maybee zig zag course around a few boys ect.

surely their is enough people paddling around this area , you all must be sick of just training all the time

oh and have a few spare boards for those that just want to have a go.

Just got this year
S surfing queensladnd events calendar in the mail and the XCEL Open Ocean Paddle Race is set for June 4, with the QLD SUP Titles (surf) set for July 9-10 on the sunshine coast.

Looks like I might have to rethink plans to spend all of July in Hawaii if I want to surf in the titles? Mmmmm tough choice.

Battle of the Paddle Hawaii is May 14th - 15th, not as shown June 11th - 12th. Has been confirmed from Barrett Tester and will be uploading the BOP Hawaii teaser to their website very soon. An offical announcement will be made at the end of January.
