Well they are here. Trying my hybrid all Ozzie setup.

Quabba fronts with a 3D center. Had a USBox to FCS converter. Where it is no idea.

Should be a fun ride in the SMIK 8'8" Short Mac.

Here is the report. Waist to chest, up to shoulder. Clean, pretty glassy, cold enough to freeze the nuts off a brass monkey.

New FCS to center converter deleverid, but could not get the center into it. Was in a hurry so went the Quabba sides and the dimple center.

I am 71, been surfing since 1966, and the number of latest, greatest best ever blah blah claims that I have seen is, shall we say, high.

Completely blown away by the way my 8'8" responded to the new setup.

Looser, in terms of initial turn initiation, smoother, in terms of smoothing out chop dropping in, and bad fast.

Like every one else commented, a light sanding - I used some 400 wet, was a great idea. A little sharp, and some roughness. Who cares?
No humming or the like at all.

That SMIK Short Mac has never gone so fast, and easy in the small soft waves that I was on today!

The FCS to center plate and screw showed up. After some filing and messing about all three quabba fins installed.

Surfed again and they are still a better mousetrap.

Put my money where my mouth is and ordered a set in futures.

Now a 7" center plate and screw, some larger ones for front quads, and big twinnies for SMIK hipster twins would be UNBELIEVABLE!

my brother-in-law is waiting on his hipster twin custom atm. We are going to put in the large ('plus') side quobbas as soon as they are available and see how they go.

Have a 10'6" laird for slower local point break - does not handle a local great very fast beach break - semi hollow and just makeable by very good young fit surfers! Have on order a " fish and chip " blue planet sup with upgraded fins. But the quobba fins sound good.Do you put them on the front of the quad setup? Not a vertical surfer - rather carve with speed ( back door barrels = hav'nt done for years and would love to get back in there on a sup) also big roundhouse cutties and blast off the power see " Sultans of Speed - Terry Fitzgerald " Ithink with the chip design these would enhance the speed. Need help to get into this wave - not really to get into but help to get down the line rapidly!

I must say I always used them as a thruster setup. I did not feel the need having a quad setup for speed. For a quad setup, I would try to see with Quobba if I could buy a thruster setup + an extra central fin, and use the 2 central fins as rear quads.
Otherwise, I guess I would put the Quobba sides in front and the Quobba central in the rear in the inside rear box (the one closer to the wave). If you are just racing the section or tubing you do not need the rear outside fin, it will only add drag. Or just add a regular normal fin on the outside rear box.

To race fast sections with the quobba, if you are heavy what works best is using the rail in the initial turns to be able to push hard on them even with their small size, and get on a high line to catapult down the line. The Quobba will allow you to get higher on the wave without being stuck, and thus gather incredible speed with less drag.

About to pull the trigger on a set of these after reading through this and the kiting posts. I'll probably try them initially on my shortboard SUP and then for kiting. I'm interested as anyone conducted a speed test with a Rip Curl SearchGPS or Trace or something. It might be a good comparsion if you can test within a single session. I may give it a shot once I recieve them since I have the Rip Curl watch.

I'll post a review here once I get them.

current size of the available quobbas. Bigger ones later to match the larger (unadjustable) quobbas that will soon be available I understand.

quobbafins insta showing larger quobba plus currently being tested around Margies. Will be keen to try a pair on the smik hipster when available - reckon that could be a winning combination.

As I said, they are small, you have to adapt your surfing and surf faster. The faster you go, the faster they go (the less drag they have).
They are not adapted to slower pivot moves, for this the C-Drive are better.

Actually from the photo the base on the large is about the same size so it appears that the tip is only bigger / more area. Looks like the smaller is nicer to me:-)

I have used the Quoba fins for about a year. I agree with Colas. Not a fin for soft shouldered waves. Need to get them up to speed in steeper sections. I would be very interested in swapping them for a set of C-drives!

FRP, yes. I realize I may be biased towards them because I now live in Hossegor, where with the always changing tides and sandbars, you can always find some punch in the waves as you can seek shallow banks without fearing rocks.

I had my 8'10" Sunova Speeed out this morning for a couple of hours in decent waist to shoulder high waves. Beautiful sunny day. I had the Quobba fins on and I am sure I could hear them humming once up to speed. Anyone else notice this with these fins?

Ive been using the Quobbas on my creek for a while now. they really loosened it up and give great speed. Had A ripper session saturday morning in waist to oHead and they worked some magic. Put the CDrives on this morning but too big and close out today so didnt get a chance to run back to back.

So took the new J-Hawk 10' out instead at a local break that was small but fun, (from Surefire Boards) she keeps me honest at 29' and 121lt but on a wave ....magic.

Colas have you tried the larger Quobba fins yet???? I think they would be perfect for the creek..

Not yet, I have a set on pre-release just shipped that I should receive in 10/15 days.

I think the bigger fins are more needed on shorter boards, where you have less rail to use in turns. But I'll see.

I have fallen hopelessly down the "fin rabbit hole". Took my 8'10" Speeed out in tiny waves this morning. Quobba as side bites and large stock Sunova 105 in back. It was lots of fun. Even tried getting up to the nose a couple of times. Had it out in similar waves yesterday just as a single fin. (There was a bit of not too serious discussion a while back about surfing the speeed without fins.) Not so great. The side bites added stability, drive and speed.

Post some photos once you've tried my large quobbas.

I found my ultimate fin setup: Quobba Fins Large in front, and Quobba Fins Small in the rear. An explosive combo: Speed, Hold and Looseness...

OTOH I tried a quad setup with 2 quobba rear fins, and it was definitely too stiff for me, I am used to very small rears in quads.

My recommendation for 80kg + riders would be to buy Qplus sets, and then later when available buy the center sliding fin in M (orange) to be able to loosen a bit the tail. But I stay with the M at 100kg on the boards I use at high speeds, as they provide enough grip for me then, but keep the board super loose, but it is a personal taste, and I use low volume boards.

Do they have a proper quad set in the pipeline?

Not that I know of. You can try to mail them or ask them on their facebook, but they are quite busy these days with the Margaret river pro in their backyard.
I must say that seeing the time it takes for their models to become available in the shop after being announced, I do not see them having quads in 2019.

Just got set of large and regular size. Looking forward to trying them this weekend. I'll need to get a fcs fin converter box as both my sups have the US long box in the centre. Anyone know if you can still buy c drive fins anywhere ?

Pacific Vibrations is making a C-drive knock-off. They have knock offs of a lot of unusual fins if that's your thing.

I have been trying to get c-drives to Canada for two years or more without luck. Ordered two sets of "J-drive" from Pacific Vibrations. I will let you know how they go.
