Hey, Im about to begin doing some downwinders and need to get a PFD. Im new to it and Ive not heard much about PFD that are suitable for SUP riders (plenty that suit kiteboarders etc), so Im thowing this open to anyone and everyone with any recommendations for any suitable PFD

We mostly use the Ultra brand and get the largest size because the only difference is the length of the shoulder straps and you want them long so it sits low and not up under your arms.

I'm getting some samples of CO2 inflatable PFDs for sales in Japan, they might not meet the Australian standards, but they can support up to 120Kg for 24hrs, looks like this :

very compact belt before you inflate them, can replace the C02 to use again

One problem with the cylinder inflating type is that if you fall against your board right where the cylinder sits you wil either ding your board or worse.. Break/bruise a rib.. and that can be vey painful.. Can't it Jonathan..

Hey DJ, thanks for the Ultra recommendation, a few ppl in previous post discuss the same brand but not the type/model...
I mean,; is a waist pouch generally acceptable in events doing racing and down winders?
is generally a vest the best way to go or something like: http://www.ultrapfd.com.au/default.asp?PageID=44

cheers

This is the one most of us use..
