Don't you love it when you've got a nice wave lining up in front of you, you've got the inside, awesome, then some one drops in calling party wave. Thought it was up to the host to invite you to a party. Not invite yourself.
Mostly happens with people you know, but what a great excuse to drop in on the wave of the day.

Party waves are nothing but a poor excuse for people to drop in.

Party waves are not to be tolerated.

Video footage of party waves only serves to let Surf Novices think they can drop in and IT's OK.

Well its NOT OK to drop in.

Maybe this is one reason a lot of SURF NOVICES get themselves in the ****.

Cant agree with this one if its average to good and your mates want to jump on the wave just be gracious and let them enjoy the wave of the day with you.
After recalling many great sessions, I can think back to my top 5, tuncurry breakwall in reverse, super tubes working for over 100 metres, epic cross waves and north and south points all time at the local break, I can remember being out with 10-15 guys (with only my mates at super tubes) and not once needing a party wave. At tuncurry breakwall I even shared a wave or two on the set ones.
On those rare days every one out there knows its a special day and you just enjoy the stoke of it. At the moment you dont really know its going to be the best day. If your mate calls party wave you know he/she is over the conditions and just want to have fun. Take this as an opportunity and change something up, ride switch, try a new trick, hold the rail instead of cutting back. Pull ya mate by the leggie. Swap boards. Just acknowledge the stoke of being out there. Don't get bummed. If its an epic day you both will be too stuffed to call out anything. Or have dry mouth from all the hooting.

But by no means next session refrain from returning the favour and calling "Party Wave" on their best wave of the day.

Brings back memories of the epic A-frame day at north point at the local and having my trusty boardies ripped in two and having to hold on to them while talking to the elderly neighbours on the walk home.

The person on the wave has to call it - so mates know it is ok to drop in on the wave. you do not drop in and call
'"party wave" especially when it is a very good or hollow/dangerous one - just bull****

Your mates must love you pumpjockey. I have never been called into a party wave, but have often had uninvited guests.
As Steve says. Invite if you want, but don't make the call yourself and drop in.

Yes, must say I was always well liked in the lineup, even making friends and getting waves at Avalon, North narra and Newcastle. Although newport wedge well that was another matter. I remember one day when I was out at really good South Avalon and this local guy was getting all the waves, just really solid old school carver, there were all these other hotshot young prodigies sitting on the inside just waiting for some to come through. I paddled out the back and just sat there and waited for like 5 sets and the local paddles up to me and pops out an ear plug. "Aren't you going to catch one", he said. "i'm not that good" I replied. He just laughed and started calling me on a few set waves. Just show a bit of respect he advised me sit a few sets out and let the locals catch a few.
Best advise I ever got. Just sit back and look at the other surfers perspective, let the locals have a few.
(i was also lucky enough to live on the best surf beach on the mid north coast for half the year for almost all of the naughties, catching waves whenever I wanted, usually with me, myself and I or one maybe two other guys, out and if someone got bummed you would just paddle a bit further up the beach to the next peak. If it was really pumping ( at least between 3-5pm) I might have 8-10 guys out at the break and then sit out there for a few sets. I usually surf for 2-4 hours at a time.)
I just was lucky to be able to have a place to crash and enough free time to spend in the area.
Also this enabled me to surf with and around a lot of pros,
Kelly, Barton, Tom, Nick Carroll, The hoy brothers (Matt and Luke Egan was uaually on tour), Egan clan, Rob Machado, Hedge, Ozzie, Potter, Some where cool and some where absolute dickheads, snakes and wave hogs.

Oh well I better tow the line in case I go out with you guys at a SUP comp and you call party wave on me, all the time. Actually with my Avanti, you wouldnt want to share the wave as it might take you down that thing is a deadly weapon.
