The nanny has called the police......
Disgraceful . Andrews is a dead set Stalin wannabe. How the hell can someone paddling into the middle of nowhere be a problem.
They haven't closed the beaches on the bass coast because people will catch the virus whilst surfing, its so half of Melbourne won't come and spread the virus. That's why they reopen after Easter.

Their argument is that if I get in to trouble I will divert valuable emergency resources to rescuing me.
Where I paddle, if I get in to trouble, no one is going to know, much less come to help me.
I am on my own, and happy with it.

So who have they told, and how.? If I had't seen it on Seabreeze, I wouldn't know, and I live here.
A sign on the bridge after people have driven 2 hours down here isn't going to make them turn around and go home.
Beaches closed for 4 days at the moment - I can live with that, hope the weather is ****.
But once they know they can do it, they will be closing the beaches next summer for the ****ing hooded plovers.
By the way, I am a right wing nutter

Certainly sounding like one.
These are some of my "local" SUP crews... all awesome people, and I miss them!
My beaches are NOT shut down and many of my friends are still surfing.... some are not.
There are endless remote places to paddle, right down the street, as you have seen in my videos
But.... I simply can't, my soul won't let me.
Everyone has their own reasons to "stay home or go"
One friend just got Doctor's "ok to surf" after 8 months out for shoulder and hernia repair.
I say "go and have an awesome session, my friend"
Every situation is different, so no government dictate can possibly serve them all.
My longtime SUP crew
Winter SUP crew
Surfer, SUPster, Kneeboarder at the "Oldtimer's Surf Contest"... started around 1973
My NYC SUP crew ( Standup Journal Owner Evelyn, at bottom)
My time at home, is used to make videos to entertain all of us "couch surfers" or create positive posts on social media.
We are all hurting from this, in one way or another.
I am glad to come here to "see" all of you folks!
If you are bored, here is my YouTube Channel link:
Way over 100 SUP videos, if lockdown gets you desperate for some SUP action
ok... all of my attempts to link my channel have failed
Let's try this:
Here's an entertaining 40 sec video... one of my first
click the "play" button
THEN click the "YouTube" symbol
When you get there, simply click my name under the video, left side.
That will get you to my channel (sheesh... could it get any more complicated?)
Lots of interesting thoughts being shared on this topic. I think pretty much everyone is unified on the fact that we should follow the government's advice and that is the most important thing in my opinion.
To those who say we shouldn't surf even if we have our own local beach and we can find a quiet spot and maintain a few metres distance, I would like to point out that while you think you're being better than everyone else you are actually contributing to the confusion that makes people do the wrong thing. In Vic we have been told it's ok to go surfing so long as we maintain a couple of metres distance. By expressing an opinion contrary to government and police advice, you are actually creating disunity with the government and people start to do the wrong thing in other areas as the advice is muddied. To actually become abusive to someone who is acting completely within their rights is not helpful. I hope you don't take your agressive attitude into the surf.
To those who say we shouldn't surf as it's not fair to those who can't, I'd like to point that we do this all the time. Should I not eat because someone is starving, should live in the street because some are homeless ....do you stop surfing when your mate is injured and spends his morning watching from the car park? Sorry, makes no sense to me. When I'm out of the water I don't expect everyone else to suffer.
To those who tell us how it is in their country, I thank you for helping us understand what's going on around the world but of course you shouldn't be telling us how to behave in Australia. We have our own government for that.
To those who say they felt guilty when they went surfing and gave it up I'd say yes of course you should stop. No one should do what they think is wrong. However don't put your feelings of guilt onto others. I don't feel guilty going for a surf, so I will be.
To those who post pictures of beautiful spots that they are surfing safely and away from others, thankyou! It's a little bit of joy in an otherwise pretty dark time.
Stay safe, stay local and see you in the water.
Mick,
yours is the most intelligent succinct comment out of all the comments on this post, and echoes many of our thoughts.
Hope all the nay-sayers read it , goodonya mate!
Plus it seems you can have no more virus in the nose, but still in the throat or lungs, so tests only sampling the nose can give false negatives.
"It seems" that it's inherently dangerous to post comments that appear to be "theories".
Reading the medical announcements (and not the plethora of fake rumours and conspiracy theories), most sources state that if you have the virus in your lungs, then you will be extremely ill. www.nytimes.com/article/coronavirus-body-symptoms.html
Can see what Colas is possibly saying: "yes, you're very ill, but we've tested for Corona virus and it's come up negative, so you're probably just dying from pneumonia" (for example).
If I could make a suggestion: if anyone posts medical information, post the link, don't post personal medical "opinions". Plenty of experts around for that.
A relative of mine swore black and blue the other day that "5G has caused the Corona virus".......
Goodness gracious me, the stuff that people believe out there on the WWW (and ah, if you're a believer, just google "fake 5G corona-theories" )

Absolutely, well he is an educated person after all
WTF!
That'll be happening here soon with over excited cops and their ever increasing powers

This is a paddle board forum one would hope that people don't seek medical advice from here. Plus, I doubt very much the New York Times is a recognised medical journal.
Some of us enjoy reading people's theories no matter how far fetched.

Ah, knew there'd be someone that'd pick on quoting from one of the major international newspapers rather than a lesser-known source.
"This is a paddle board forum one would hope that people don't seek medical advice from here." That was my point........
No need to get twitter and bisted

The big question is, is Corona so dangerous it justifies me not suppi.. shutting down the economy?
Looks like we'll know soon.
"Dr. Jay Bhattacharya is a professor of medicine at Stanford University. He is a research associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research and a senior fellow at both the Stanford Institute for Economic Policy Research and the Stanford Freeman Spogli Institute. His March 24, 2020, article in the Wall Street Journal questions the premise that "coronavirus would kill millions without shelter-in-place orders and quarantines." In the article he suggests that "there's little evidence to confirm that premise-and projections of the death toll could plausibly be orders of magnitude too high." "
I'm staying strong and have resisted unlike others in lockdown 4 in NZ
I've stayed away from looking at surf cams, weather and surf reports (which stopped showing rating) and even Seabreeze.
www.newstalkzb.co.nz/news/auckland/lockdown-locals-and-surfer-in-heated-confrontation-at-takapuna-beach/
The last couple of days in Auckland the nice weather has turned to rain and 30 knots plus but when the weather was nice and we were out walking you see some people not social distancing and think actually when there was waves locally I would have been fine catching waves on the beach (not the reef in case I fell onto the reef, cut myself up and require medical assistance).
Agree with the surfer at Takapuna being more concerned about dogs not on leashes.
But then its the novice inflatable sup rider that sees you on the water and paddles 300m in offshore winds then takes an hour to get back to the beach.
Please think of others and breaking the chain of transmission and get the situation under control so eventually we drop levels.
Peace out
Over here in The Netherlands (as you may know the 2nd best country in the world ???? from the fun message to Trump), we have beaches being locked mostly during weekends and then silently open / not enforced during the weekdays.
luckily we still had some nice sessions and maintaining at least few meters distance.
Personally, I really enjoy the sessions for mental sanity sake as luckily my regular work can continue from home and my wife and me have in addition our 3 kids to home educate. Definately not complaining, it is just big adaptation to the new current reality and SUP surfing is then great to get rid of some stress. all take care and enjoy whatever you can do now ??
At least it makes nice, if somewhat eerie, images...
Hossegor under lockdown:
Wow colas not a soul in sight, I know it is really bad in your country now (I am in the lucky country) so not so bad for me but I do get a feel :-(

Well, we are lucky because our region ("Les Landes", French department between Bordeaux and Bayonne, excluded) is one of the least impacted in France (only 10 deaths total), as it one with the least population density and people here are loners (unlike italians or spanish people for instance). But it is even more frustrating to have the same strict lockdown rules as the rest of the country, the drawback of an ultra-centralized administration, unlike Australia, Germany, ...

Hossegor under lockdown:
Amazing vision - you can imagine mother nature taking over if the lockdown continued. Reminds us how luck we are down under with the low death rates and freedom to still go for a paddle.

And my actual town, Seignosse (Capbreton / Hossegor / Seignosse are touching each other). My house is somewhere at 1mn30 :-)
Hey Colas,
Do you have vision / images of the Rip Curl headquarters in Hossegor?
My daughter works for them in Torquay and would be interested.
The staff car park sticker in the bottom right hand corner of the back window mentions Hossegor

(I cannot stand videos on Facebook - how a company with such money can make such abysmal tools? - so I tend to convert them to YouTube for comfortable viewing)
Again Wow, I did see two cars moving. I do hope things get better in your / the future :-)

Well, the views were carefully selected to not show anybody. Actually, there is some activity in the streets, it is not as "the day after" as it seems :-)
Do you have vision / images of the Rip Curl headquarters in Hossegor?
I live at 1km from them :-) I have Rip Curl wetsuits, because they can re-cut them at the factory/HQ for a custom fit. Plus I love their flexibility.
You can have some views in google maps, at goo.gl/maps/1RiqBxyQCf8TLxo79
shops are on the left (regular + factory outlet), HQ on the right.
PS: This part of France (Aquitaine) was Roman, then English for quite some time, and it shows in the town names:
- CapBreton is French (Briton's cape)
- Hossegor is English (local sounding of "House of Guards")
- Seignosse is Latin ("Seignus", aka "The old man")
