In a padded paddle cover on deck of the board, paddle blade fits nose curve. Pool noodle or towels rolled up either side to stop crushing. Used this 10+ times with no dramas.

Cut a pool noodle in half, lengthways, and slip paddle inside. Job done (:

I actually have to travel with a paddle but no board. I have a paddle cover . Anyone done this ? Obviously a little concerned about baggage handlers and bags placed on top of it.

Thanks fellows, much appreciated. Paddle in its own cover, and place in board bag, noodles up and down the shaft, if I'm reading it correctly.

One big advantage to assembling your paddle with hot glue....
I take the blade off and put in a blade cover, then tape it to the bottom of the board, hosel forward, following the nose curve.
Handle in with my clothes
The shaft in a paddle bag taped to the top side as it drops down, just above the rail

As long as there's a hair dryer at the destination, you are good to go.
Don't forget some glue sticks for reassembly
