Wow, did someone record my conversation with the shop owner of where I'm getting my custom board made???

I'll need to buy him a box of roses chocolates now - I feel so pretentious...

A Shaper friend of mine shared this with me.

After working in surfboard specialty stores for many years I can assure you that these comments are a collection of what people really ask.

I can also confirm that I may have reacted in a similar way to this guy..

Edit: I did a very small study and calculated that the average time that a normal person can spend dealing with the general public is 7 years. After this you no longer can be civil when answering dumb questions, you can no longer be nice when you say G'day to someone and they say 'Yeah righto mate' or 'I'm just looking'. God, I'm still bitter 8 years later...... Hahaha.

After 30 years of owning surf shops I can confirm that this is typical of the stupid questions and dumb comments some of the general public come up with. Albeit exaggerated and condensed into one customer.
Only once did I let my guard down and reply in a similar sarcastic manner to this.
This was a cool vid to see and reminds me of why I got out.

You should try the automotive trade, some of the most stupid questions come out of peoples mouths!! My fave is What type of car do you have? Answer, Hyundai

Look all you like but if someone is just genuinely saying hello or "G'day" the correct response is not "I'm just looking" it is 'Hi' or even a "G'day" back.

Being human is not that hard, if you have worked in customer service for a while you may think otherwise though.

When I read the posts from you guys I thought this will be really funny.
It could be really funny if it wasn't so true! Once a surfer was a guy who hung out through the week to surf his guts out on the weekend and sneak in a couple mid week when he could. Of course there are still guys like that around.
It continues to amaze me that our society is being invaded by these BMW driving, bargain hunting, negotiating WANKERS. I have actually been in shops when people come in and talk like the guy in the video. It is amazing that there hasn't been a murder in a shop before now.
Oh oh there I go raving again. You know the older I get the less tolerant I become of these pretentious twits.
All shopkeepers and retail people have my heartfelt sympathy for having to deal with this type of crap. Shut up ET.
