WTF indeed. I recorded the majority of the ABC sunny coast interview with the organiser. https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B43P4ZQxsUk-dnpzTUs3SzNjYlU
I also just did a pre-recording with the ABC on my take, from a SUP and Surfers point of view. See if they run it and what the response is. IMO it's there loss not ours.
Ok first of all it's a festival of surfing and it has a long history of surfing. Stand up paddle has a short history,it also has two specific identities, one surfing and the racers. Their festival is for belly paddlers it started that and should continue,it requires a different skill set. If stand up paddlers need a festival start your own not tag on to an existing one .
the past few weeks everyone has been hammering surfing qld and surfing Aus on facebook for lack of support and dedication to SUP - this really is poetic justice on their part. It's really what we've been arguing for, yet now everyone is upset. The irony does my head in!
Well a lot of work went into setting it up as a stand alone event prior to the surfing part. That is why we were starting on the Friday all over Saturday afternoon. Yes the hard truth and facts the event is bigger and better supported via paddlers and sponsors... The whole part of the SUP Event had self sponsors, event organisers, race directors, water safety, prize money and trophies & prizes... And I would have to say some of the best support by the SUP industry all getting on board... I am sure the accomodation houses and restaurants and bars are stoked there are now 200 less people not coming to Noosa for on average 3 days spending $$$$$$$$$$. I know when I rang my accomodation house to cancel she was not impressed...
Oh well there is my 2 bob to the story...... That god alcohol is legal in this country as when I got the email informing of the decision I needed a few drinks....
despite being a massive frustration for organisers etc... we now have a massive SUP only stand alone event that will be run and participated in, by stand up paddler's. Best thing to happen and will compliment already great races like 12 towers, tri series, flat water classic and future events to come - that are all already SUP stand alone events, run by stand up paddler's! I'm excited
I'm a keen SUP paddler and occasional racer but I sort of get their logic on this. Sometimes events grow and grow and while their participation is great and bring come benefits they can drift away from the integrity of their original intent.
I can see why they are looking to shrink it back to a reduced event schedule otherwise it can just become a big mass of events with no one really sure what is the jewel in the crown. It may actually be a blessing in disguise . . . .
It will be interesting to see how foiling will take shape in the future as some type of competitive format emerges. Will it integrate into surfing / SUP / or its own standalone.
No SUPs at Noosa, no worries! keep 20/21st January free! full event details soon. But it's part of Surfest... Redhead Beach.Elite BOP mens & womans, open bop mens/womans 1st, 2nd, 3rd prize money in the 4 digits $$$$ men & women equal prize money!!Surfing open men, open women & open mixed 10' division. prize money for this event could be the biggest offered in any comp in Aus!More info shortly or message me.-Dylan
Never seen anyone canoe surfing in Oz, but if they did, plenty people would get all nuts about the heavy dangerous canoes in the line up. Just imagine if the guys started towing in with kites with them heavy canoes. Maybe just can the whole thing everyone just stay home.

I love Noosa! I lived for six months in the Coolum Caravan park 25 years ago. All winter there was pretty much just me and some refugee from california enjoying the swells from the winter lows. I still remember the super long rides when the bays linked up.
Ok maybe I overreacted a little bit Iam sometimes too quick on the draw. The wave is fine allthough even 25 yrs ago it was bloody crowded. For some folks in nooswa the froth from they frothy cino has gone straight to their head.
Gotta say I prefer to occasionally visit Noosa than Byron Bay. That place has its head firmly jammed up its arse with the loving support of a do nothing council except blame and fine the tourists for its lack of foresight.

25 yrs ago just you and one other? Don't think so. I'm 60 now and I remember surfing in crowds there when I was twenty. And nothing has changed. (Well yes it has, it's just got worse. Even on the smallest of days)
