WTF I have copped so much grief over the years saying Sups are dangerous and now I'm on the foil I'm copping the same sh!t but I'm now sitting 50m wider than anyone else & I get to see the whole picture. Having foiled The Pass at Byron a few times over the last few weeks sitting out wide I have seen multiple collisions of 3 or 4 riders from these wanna be Soul riders just kooking it on their loggers and rasta inspired shapes trying reverse hang tens and loosing their board taking out kids and other surfers.

It's ridiculous no one should ever surf without a leg rope .

The good think about these soul surfers is they only ride old school pu glass boards, so when their riderless log comes flying past you, one swift hit to the rail with your paddle and their board is out of action for a few days.

Jokes aside, I'm a member at the local surf club and it's becoming quite a problem. Particularly on hot days when the swimmers are all up and down the beach. There was at least a dozen leashes idiots in one small corner of the beach on Good Friday when the beach was packed with people trying to teach their kids. I'm going to have to take a claw hammer on patrol with me to help grab any wayward boards that come flying past.

Down at Manly there's even a SUP dude that frequents the south end that thinks he's rocking it not using a leash and throwing the occasional jazz hands with batton. Dick.

Was at mona the other day and no swimmers around so the log boards with no fins are not a problem and then was also down at manly and the lifeguards set up on the only multiple peak worth riding and the swimmers are starting to cop it. I cant handle non leash wearing idiots but to all those try hards who think they're shortboards look good without a nose cone and then take out the back of someones head. That really riles me up.

foiling in crowded breaks, KNOWN for beggines on surfboards and sups, and many different craft in general, is not a good idea anyway

You can keep bringing it up and debating it but until some one really sues someones arse for hurting them and setting a precedence in court then nothing will be done. Simple Fact.

Dont get me wrong I'm on your side but I reckon you will find you would not have a leg to stand on if you wanted to sue because the activity is classified as potentially risky and all participants were aware of the risk of injury when deciding to do the activity.

Eg Your snow skiing and some out of control spanner crashes into you and causes you an injury - unlikely to be able successfully sue

How did the foil go out at Byron?

I totally agree that its dangerous, but a below average surfer riding a foil at Byron and the alley which are arguably the two most crowded places in Australia is just as bad in my opinion. (yes, I've watched your videos)

Absolutely right , its a trend and its also happening down on south coast ,It shows a total disregard for other people and needs to be discouraged at all costs .THERE IS NO EXCUSE FOR IT ,all boards even the old ones can be retro fitted with plugs.

It would rather be like not tightening your boards on your car roof and pretending that you are a good enough driver so you can avoid losing them...

I don;t enjoy being in the water with leggie-less legends much, even the best ones lose their boards here and there. I can understand the hassle of getting our feet stuck in them when you're cross-stepping though.

But I reckon there's as much chance of stopping it now as the mal riders had of stopping SUPs when things started getting serious.

Back then they we're cool until the board hit something. Saw a dude last week legless and he really thought he was .... and I thought cmon, really?! Its funny watching them catching/ grabbing the board in action

So these are the videos you are talking about where we ride 50m wide of the pack and never cross a surfer another surfer up on a wave and you call us dangerous , but you are saying it's OK to ride your hippster logger mal with no leg rope through the pack at the Pass or the Alley and let me guess you are right there on your Sup. The thing you seem to miss about foiling is we are riding nothing you good even scratch onto and no where near the crowded peak. Got some vision of you shreading the peak please share.
