I'm looking at buying a 9'6'' x 32'' SUP for pushing against the current in the river but also taking down to SurfCoast for a play in the waves. Primary use will be up here on the Murray however.

Just wondering how members find pushing SUP's against the current....will the board I'm looking at buying do it? My current one (a 10'6' soft top won't cut through....it just sorta bobs along and bounces on the current)

Check out the JP AUS Hybrid and the BIC Cross. The JP has a displacement nose for tracking , the Cross has a keeled nose for tracking. Depends on how much you want to spend too. Someone can probably tell you how they surf. Cheers

A Naish 9'6"x 32" Mana would be my choice.. Its a great flat water paddling board.. Stable and fast with it gentle rocker but also an awesome surfing board.. Soft top boards can be very sticky and slow and you will notice a big difference with a quality hard board.. On flat water use it with a 9" center fin and no side fins and when surfing use the smaller fins that it comes with.

Thanks Mate - The Stonker I was looking at has thrusters that I'd take off on the River I reckon. Really looking forward to getting on a hard board and giving it a crack.

Try and demo before buying..

Two boards of exactly the same width and length can paddle flat water completely differently..

I have a Naish 9'6"x 32" Mana and it paddles flat water great.

I have a Naish 9'6"x 32" Hokua and it paddles flat water terrible.

You would be better getting something a little bigger eg 10'6x 32" longboard shape.

How did that Stonker work out. If you think about going to 10'6" for a bit more glide and stability in the river GSI have an Adventure 10'6"?32" in their MX construction at a good price. Same story as DavidJohn, run a 9" centre fin in the river for tracking and add the rear side fins for the surf. Cheers
