Sometimes 14 or even 17 feet won't do it....yesterday was definitely a 20+ feet x 16 1/2" sitting down kinda day!

Funny thing is I'm pretty convinced mixing it up on a surfski or an OC1 has enormous benefit for downwinding skills on a SUP. The extra glide and ability to link brings home how much fun and how much faster it is to really micro read the water, to learn to stay high and hold back on the wave and then give you the sense of trimming across the face. Skills that many people who have only ever downwinded on a sup have trouble getting a handle on.

And that's before you get into the benefit of cross training whilst still being on the water! Win Win

I was thinking the same, booked myself a beginner training with a pro to find out.
They told me the Epic v 8 would be ok for a start

Epic V8 is perfect, I rented a heavy old one in Maui last year and learnt so much doing Maliko runs. I have a V10S and recently bought a lightweight Stellar SES which is what I was paddling yesterday. Great thing about the V8 is that you can really focus on technique because you have such a stable boat - opposite of the SES... Have fun!

For a moment there DJ I thought the unthinkable and that you'd changed brands. You know, once you go black...

You're not alone with that! A few almost fell over when DJ walked up the beach with a non-yellow board. Who knows? The SIC team is growing in VIC!
