I found the FCS ledge handle to be uncomfortable over any distance, my fingers only go so far into it.
The FCS, being shallow, has the advantage of not storing a lot of water (why spend hundreds of $ on a lighter board and then have a pint of water added to it), its textured surface provide a good grip for its size, and its rounded edges are toes-freindly.
I guess it is more geared for light, performance boards. I can run a mile in the morning with the FCS to get to secluded spots without trouble, and lift the board out of the water flat with one hand. But I guess that if you have heavy boards a deeper and wider handle is better and the water weight in it is a non-issue, so your mileage will vary.
Note that before the FCS I just added a ledge myself with a bit of domed pad on one side of straight handles, it worked impressively if you did not use gloves and do not have huge hands.

Others have made a similar ledge but with the epoxy sticks you mix by hand
