Interesting to watch especially about having the top hand come right over the top of the lower one so your paddle is totally vertical and push down, I will give it a try on Sunday at Sorrento.

Excellent video . But the rotator cuff on top shoulder looks at real risk of injury

I'm not an expert by any means but that Reach/Catch of his looks really awkward/unnatural and exaggerated.

I think he exaggerated the movements for didactic reasons, so you clearly understand what he means.

This is really one of the best video I have seen on paddling, clearly demonstrating the importance of the 3 points a lot of people forget. Blade digs deeps, shaft vertical, exit at the feet.

His (Sam Ross) site has other good vids and tips: www.sam-ross.co.uk/
His youtube playlist for SUP www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLP7KGVZy0gFSUxNLscqB1vS5wzYfQuTnk

PS: Of course, his paddle shaft is too long, but I guess again it makes for explicit videos: once you see the "stacking of shoulders", you will remember what this mean, which is not so clear with other vids.

Well I went to Sorrento today to try out the paddling tips from the video and it made a huge difference to speed and direction, not sure if it would cause shoulder injuries but it definitely works them.

I tried it today as well without overdoing it due to concerns with rotator cuff. I note in video how close he gets to side off board . Almost touching .
It is an awesome technique

paddle like that for any length of time , get some good medical insurance. Watch the Travis vid again and compare to that.

I have been getting a little bit of technique coaching of late and there are a million different views on what works, I think this proves that no one has come across the magic formula. The overall technique is not that different to the video Danny Ching put out a few years ago. The idea of dropping your weight onto the paddle is not that different to what a few people have been telling me to do (and btw it seems to work pretty well).

My advice would be, try a whole lot of technique stuff, ensure you are not swinging too bigger blade and your shaft is not overly stiff. I have a history of shoulder injuries so finding a technique that works without having inflaming the shoulder. I think a lot of people are using too stiffer shaft as well, try something a bit softer and you might find your overall speed improves as well.

My thoughts only

I used this in the surf today and it made a difference especially concentrating on weight forward and did paddle in then back

Makes me bend more but in turn felt I had more stability so I guess this technic works ok for surf as well
