This race supports a great cause on the island of Maui - Camp Imua for special needs children. It was held on Saturday 4th May with around 100 paddlers fronting up for the downwinder from Maliko Gulch to Kahului Harbour - approx 10 miles east to west along Maui's North Shore

Conditions were tough... it was hot with light winds!... Nevertheless, the pacific ocean presented itself in all its glory with sparkling hues, crystal clear water, and light tailwinds that did give us some relief from having to slogg it out for the entire distance. Everyone had a great paddle and posted times that were much faster than the conditions would have suggested.

A young 17 yr old Aussie paddler from Victoria - Matt Nottage, who was riding one of our Foote Maliko 14's, gave the field a run for their money and smoked in at 11th place overall and came 5th in the Mens 14' Div.... Big congrats to Matt, who will be out there again this weekend flying the Aussie flag in the Olukai Race.

The Foote Maliko 14's dominated in the 14' Div
Travis Baptiste 1st 14' Mens
Kathy Shipman 2nd 14' Womens
Congrats to Travis and Kathy for their outstanding results

Many thanks to the Bluesmith crew who organised a great event, and provided paddlers with delicious food at the finish, loads of Hawaiian amber ale, and post-race party with lots of local flavour.

Paddle Imua, and next weekends Olukai Race, are events to definitely mark on your calendar for next year. These races cater for beginner, novice and advanced paddlers.... are loads of fun, and offer an amazing way for you to experience Hawaiian Ocean Culture.

Happy to help anyone out with more info - aloha Barb

Matt Nottage is a great example of the future of this sport .... these young guns are as humble as they come, and are so well supported by their parents. We are stoked to have Matt paddling one of our boards.... and Paul (his Dad) other than being a great paddler in himself, is one of the best board caddies I've seen.

Looking forward seeing more Aussies over here for these events.

Pimp away Barb. Love hearing about Bill's boards as they represent the true essence of the sport...
Can't wait to get over there in a couple of months.

Hi Barb, I do do something usefull in life . I run a Paleative care team and look after dying people at home. I work around fifty hours a week but get paid for twenty because it is designated as a part time position.
That doesn't bother me though because I am getting older and it also gives a lot back to the community and in particular families who have a loved one dying at home.
The pimping remark was directed at your comments re your boards and products. Not just in this post but in previous ones.
In Australia we are free to make comments and lots of people do.
I will not belittle myself by having a go back at you but suffice to say that your nasty comment has not upset me, rather it has amused me as I have a wonderful productive life.
Good Luck.
ET.
