. Well many may disagree but I think 3 boards is enough ..I have my 14'gx javelin for DW, flat water and fitness .then I have my GT11'nalu for small days in the surf and just mucking around ....then my Hokua 9.6 for when it going off. ..Im content.....so I just sold my 11' glide to a newy which I hadn't used for 3 month ,as I'd rather use the 14 ' javelin .....how does everybody else feel ?....Is. 3 boards enough ???? ...I think I've got it covered...how many board do you need is the question .?

Seven is where it's currently at, I'd like to get down to five.

I was about to say 5 is good.
But then I remembered the one I have sort of hidden.
And the one I have out on loan.
And the other one I have out on loan.
And the two I'm kind of shopping for.........

Three boards ?!? That's crazy talk. I am thinking about a 7th (although I have two that I will probably only lend to friends.)

I used to think 2 boards were enough but not any more.

I currently have...

A 8'6 Coreban Platinum+ (for the choppy days)
A 7'2 Starboard Hyper Nut (for the good days or until I get good enough to use it on the choppy days)
A Bullet 14v1 (for downwinding)
A Coreban Alpha 12'6 (because it is light and easy to carry from my work to the river and also it surfs small waves and swell very good)

I desperately need and am willing to sell a kidney for ....

A Naish Maliko 26" (for downbreezers and just general lighter days)
A Starboard Sprint 23" (no explanation needed)

1) 14' race board
2) Longboard/mal style around 10' to 11'
3) Gun shape 9'8" to 9'10"
4) Shortboard shape 9'0" to 9'2"
5) Something that challenges you. IE: Vanguard shape or something small

That being said, I'm certainly not going to complain if I find myself in possession of more

When do you use 3)? Do I have a hole in my quiver I was not aware of??

I am looking for 2), my 1) is the X26 Javelin, my 4) is a 8'10" Speeed (and 8'8" X32 Hokua when it is very choppy) and my 5) is a 7'10" Minion.

I took 3) to Hawaii in July and got some nice waves. Also like using it on days that its medium size surf and i'm feeling a bit lazy.Reason being it paddles in nice and early and still surfs relatively short off the tail. Its a good size that can cover a variety of surf conditions IMO.

As for 2) The Laird Surfer 10'6" is (again IMO) the best longboard SUP hands down. The handle could be a little deeper but thats a minor negative. It surfs unreal!! I know there has been a ton of bad press on here regarding the construction, but I've never had an issue with it.

What is your 3)?

For 2) I have been looking at the Sunover Style and the Atlantis Runway. I'll need to look at the Laird too.

3 is barely enough.

Longboard SUP - because it's in our DNA
Really long (12'6 +) small wave board/paddler for trolling down the coast on a small day
Flat-water board

+ 1 if you race

7 or 8 I guess.I have a:1)8.5 Pro for when its clean and fast. When its not its challenging for me.
2)8.8 Airborne for when its mushy, choppy and weak
3)14x25 Race perfectly for flat-water but a too low nose for everything above knee high.

To be honest my quiver is right now enough to cover most conditions, but if that friendly desperate African businessman that keeps me spamming from his Hotmail acount with proposals and offers of sending millions if I help him finally keeps his prommise.....

I would ad:
4)An longboard for those nice windless summer days with small riples to play with. of course with windsurf option.
5) an 7.8 Minion/Hypernut like shape to make more of the short beachbreaks and slightly less challenging as the 8.5 Pro
6)An big-wave board for when the 8.5Pro is getting a bit too short.
7)Open water raceboard like an Falcon14x26 or Allstar 14x27 for Ocean tours and downwinders

8) an Tandem-board to paddle with the Missus together.

Yes a 9.0 ...could be on the cards...good thinking .. One more ....ok ..... 3 boards to Hawaii ? That's hard core .

The good number is: how many can you fit in the van? :-)

Plus, it depends on what you do: shortboard supsurfing, longboard supsurfing, race, downwind, ... and how frequently you are on the water.

My current personal quiver, geared for mediterranean conditions (small) (liters in difference with my weight)
- 6'8" +25l small wave fish, horizontal surfing
- 6'10" +25l weak waves Simmons (replaces a longboard)
- 7'3" +25l for powerful & hollow waves, vertical surfing
- 7'6" +5l "Tomo" for clean, powerful waves, horizontal surfing. Used also for flat water training
- 8'4" +25l classic "micro gun" for paddling speed, vertical surfing

I have one slot left in my van... I may get a 9'3" +45l true longboard shape...

Sounds like you have one hell of a van colas.and a great collection .

I've too much boards, I got 10 in running condition and 2 more in reconditionning stage.

6'9", 6'5", 6'4'' all flex tails

I pick up the right one to fit waves of the day... smaller board while summer condition and the longer ones when needed by winter time.
Definitely too much boards but each ones are labs to do a better one

Just one for me (wouldn't mind three though) makes decisions easier, especially for a procrastinator like me. Actually one will do or will it.
