Just a quick reminder that the HIF Long Board and SUP titles in Mandurah will be held at Avalon Point on the 28th and 29th of June. We will be holding a Tech Race (BOP) as well on the Sunday morning, 7:30 Registration for a 8:30 start, this will not conflict with the surfing for those who wish to do both. 12'6" and 14' will be accepted or what ever else you wish to paddle. Or just come down and watch the carnage and follow up with some epic surfing at the point.

Quite sure I wouldn't have had any worries about any clash on finals day...
Other surfing finalists should definitely conserve themselves for the surf later...
Get stuck in paddlers!!

Anyone know what time we have to be there on the Sat? Forecast is lining up pretty sweet at the moment! Good wind assistance for getting out for the BOP too!

Here's the Tech Race summary (care of DJ):
Race Report
The 20 paddlers that made the early morning run to Avalon were greeted with perfect tech racing conditions; although perhaps a little chilly for some… To the disappointment of the SUP surfers, but to the delight of the Tech racers, Saturday’s solid swell had abated considerably. The moderate nor-easterly presented plenty of challenges as the chop it created met the surf pushing into the bay. The 1,000m butterfly-style course was set tight with multiple buoy turns in both directions and kept paddlers constantly in the surf zone. With 4 laps of the course making up the race, paddlers got plenty of chances to make up ground by catching a wave or lose ground by wiping out whilst the beach portage provided plenty of close contact. Michael Hastie bolted out from the beach start to take an early lead and was never headed in an outstanding display of paddling endurance and craft control. Michael is a new entrant to the sport and it’s great to see new talent emerging on the podium. Congratulations Michael! We hope to see a lot more of you over the coming season!

Cam MacKay and Wes Fry battled throughout for the minor placings, leaving a big gap back to the pursuing pack. Cristiana Chessa put on a great display to beat plenty of the men to take out the Women’s title. Gordon Stimson stormed home into fifth overall to take out the Over 40 Men’s whilst Derek Jones managed to hang on after a good start to come home just ahead of Stimo fourth overall to take out the Over 50 Men’s Division.

Thanks to SWA for providing their jet ski to set out the buoys. Special thanks to Rog Goodwin for his efforts in executing the event on time and without a hitch – as always. Thank you Rog! The feedback received from paddlers suggested this was one of the best tech races WA has seen and all participants look forward to many more. Congratulations to all paddlers that participated, particularly the first timers to the world of Tech racing. We’re sure they’ll agree that Tech racing is a unique, exciting and fun SUP discipline.

SUPWA have an outstanding calendar of SUP events planned over the 2014/2015 season; ranging from marquee ocean races to fun, social cruises. We trust we’ll see you all on the water over the coming paddling season.
