What Colas said - I'd otherwise leave it alone. It's a good practice to give the Gore plug a flush out with fresh water now and again, apparently accumulated salt crystals can affect how the Gore membrane works (dunno if that's true but prevention is better than cure eh?).
IF you feel compelled to take it out, make sure that whatever socket you use is fully engaged with the body of the plug and not just the top cap. It's real easy to rip the cap part off (don't ask me how I know). If you do happen to rip it off the plug will still work but the Gore membrane won't be physically protected and the plug probably should be replaced - not a big deal, replacement plugs are less than $20 and Shapers usually has them.
