Downwinder said..crustacean said..I have the new 735XT and it came with a SUP activity profile out of the box. (note you have to add it to the list via the settings menu in the watch). It records stroke rate, distance per stroke as well as the usual speed, distance metrics and heart rate metrics. Really nice.
I read somewhere that this profile is also (or will be) available for the 920XT... I'd suggest making sure that you've upgraded your firmware to the latest version and then have a look in menu -> settings -> activity profiles if you haven't already.
Yep the 920XT also records stroke rate, distance per stroke as well as the usual speed, distance metrics and heart rate metrics. Really nice.
I was talking with Jenny Kalmbach from Big island on Maui last July while paddling Maliko Jenny is sponsored by Garmin she was telling me Garmin are making a watch for SUP so the 735XT that was released on the 13th May 2016 must be the one as it has Bulk feature for many different sports, at $700.
Up-date us on your new 735XT crustacean when you get the watch worked out
I've had it a couple of weeks now and tried it with SUP, run, bike, hike activities. Here's some observations:
* SUP profile is dedicated to the sport with it's own icon and customisable data fields - uploads to Garmin Connect as a SUP Activity
* has a bunch of sport activity profiles installed - XC skiing, rowing, swimming open ocean, cardio to name a few
* can create your own activities - I created a Windsuring one and there's a "max knots" data field app on the store I've hooked into it
* It's "small" for a GPS watch - 920XT & Fenix too large for my skinny wrists but this one is fine
* Can be had for under $700
* Battery lasting for almost a week with around 5 GPS activities (it's these that suck the power)
* built in HR is nice for tracking resting heart rate, walking, running but fails with SUP (I'm guessing arm / wrist movement confuses it) - grab a HR strap for SUP if you want accurate HR tracking
* turn on GPS + GLONASS for extra accurate tracking on your profile(s) of choice
* Bluetooth sync with iOS and Android works fine - seamlessly uploads to Garmin Connect
* Phone text, email, notification alerts a nice bonus and work well
* has all the usual steps and sleep tracking stuff
* there are apps for watch faces etc in the store but I've found the default best
* 50m water resistant
Very happy - does what it says on the lid in a light and compact package. If anyone is interested I'm happy to post a screen shot of the Garmin Connect default displays for SUP activity.
