Dave I assume that's a Garmin Fenix 7?
Has anyone got a Garmin Quatix 7 model?
And Pro's / Con's of the various Garmin models, with a focus on surfing / sup activities?
I've got the Fenix 6S Sapphire and use it for SUP, surf and just downloaded the windsport app on it for wing foiling. The speed, distance and GPS tracking are spot on. As is the new wind app. The areas where I have had less success are around wave tracking on a SUP. Sometimes, it fails to differentiate between waves and paddling in the same session. But only sometimes. Some sessions I have all waves accurately accounted for and tracked perfectly, others I come back with only a few logged. Can't explain why sessions can be so diffefent at the same location with similar wave counts. The other area where the Garmin is a little less than ideal is in heart rate monitoring. Any water between the watch and your wrist can cause a less than accurate heart rate and make it seem like you just went out for a cruise when my heart is pumping so hard and fast that I can hear it over the sound of the water. Both of these things are not a big deal, and don't bother me.
The tide grap app is also a great addition to download too. And the ability to send emergency location details to a chosen phone number and the track back facility that will take you home if you get caught out in the dark or in fog are useful if you ever need to deploy them - hopefully you will not.
I love my Garmin and the whole platform.
