Just out layed on a TomTom Bandit to record my first attempt at the King of the Cut.

I have a couple of board mounts and access to a chest strap, as well as use of 2nd GoPro if I want.

Any suggestions on the best set up to record my attempt?? Cheers in advance.

I can't see how, that thing he's paddling is going to require a harbor pilot and two tugs just to berth it at the beach

Not as silly as it sounds the viewpoint from a camera person is way better than attached cameras. So get a drone, a mate on a jetski or put it on someone elses board.

Hey Ulesys, a few options to consider.
However you might also want to consider that carrying camera gear can take you away from being in the DW zone & with 24ks for the kotc run, that's more than 2 to 3 plus hours of paddling & possibly/quite likely, having a few swims.
With that in mind probably a front mount on the board & maybe one shooting from the back, so it's all hopefully away from your body & your not concerned about the gear assuming you don't take it out accidently with a fall!

Or bribe Matt (Reflex Films) to get some footage of you. Not just the leaders.

hey mate..
2-3 hours means the batteries wont run that long.
And you would have to record on a lower quality - 720 or 960 resolution. It all depends on what size cards you are running in the cameras. The more you record the more data etc etc.


Send piros a message, hes the ultimate camera nerd.. He would have more of an idea as to how long the cameras would run.

If you have time, do a practice run. Wear the chest mount too.. It might rub and then theres something else that will take your mind away from paddling and enjoying the paddle.

I use my GoPro Silver with the battery backpack and it will last 3 hours even when recording HD (and a 64 GB card). Where to mount it is the tricky question in your case. I mount it on the nose of my surfing SUPs but I am trying to record something very different. I have a mouth mounting option - but that will affect your breathing. As camharvey pointed out, a chest mount might chafe... On the tail looking forward might get in the way...

I'm "hoping" to finish under three hours which is the tomtoms claimed battery life, and I'll lose a watch as it's a gps as well. Thats how I justified getting it anyways

It's more than a one off use item, so I'm hoping to get the mounts right the first time, guys like DJ have obviously trodden the hard yards to get it right and the results are awesome.
