Hi all,
Looking at getting my first sup board after riding a mates on the weekend.
His is a ocean and earth squeeze 10,6 x 32.5 185L It seemed pretty good and stable , I think it was sitting a little too far in the water for me , I am 173cm and 112kg.

2 boards that I am looking at are fanatic fly pure light 11,2 x 34 236L. (To wide?)
And sunny king bamboo 11,6 x 30 205L (to narrow?)

How do You's think these would compare to the ocean and earth and which is best ?

I have 1hr sup experience in a river and no other board experiance . when I get the hang of it would like to have a go in the surf

Cheers Jim

some good choices there all will do the job .as a first board .
34 is easy to use 30 will be harder for you ,but a faster paddler .
I think the pure will be too large in surf ,but still a fun board as a firsty
nalus are great ,the 10,10 is user friendly .and does surf ,having channels you have to ride the tail a bit more
for turns ,but a nice flat water board.and surfs .
9,8 naish QUEST is another good one .

Hey Big Jim

There are a few questions you need to ask yourself:

What do I want to do with the board? River/lake/ocean/surf?

An all rounder will do everything ok, but not anything well. For a flatwater board, you might be looking at a board 14' x 30" that has volume north of 280L. For surf, the Ocean & Earth board was about spot on in terms of dimensions & volume.

The Nalu is a great all round board. Probably more surf oriented than flat water, but would do both pretty well.

Working out what you want to do with your board is your first step though...

Thanks for the replays ,
I know I like the river and will defenetly be doing more of that style , having not done it in the surf , I am unsure weather I will like it or not.

Will to 9'8 quest be better in the surf and the 1010 better on the river ?

Cheers

In the river, the longer the better.

Both the quest or the Nalu will be fine in the surf...

For say 50% surf 50% river , with room to develop some skills on which would You's pick between the 9'8 quest and the 10'10 nalu ?

In terms of surfing it would depend on what type of break. You could really damage an 11 foot board on a steep beach break
