The only board I surf now is a 10 x 30 deep Jackson Close. So much fun in most surf that Im content. I use only a single fin. Mc Tavish red line.9" Works well.
My question is has anyone used an FCS Fatboy in a similar board to this and how did it perform

The fatboy gives you more leverage to push upon, that can be useful on slow waves, and is more nimble due to the narrower base, but can be more tricky to control as it can "foil" itself at higher speeds and has less stability in turns. It depends on your taste I guess.

My only experience with singles in longboard sups was in the laird /Pearson shapes, particularly the 10-6 .the GG 4A was perfect at 10" PS the volan layup my favourite .

Choice of a fin is up the rocker, rail line and bottom shape. On the video below if the board is the right one you speak about the rocker looks pretty flat for gliding needing a shallow multi-fins system. That is in opposition with an arch rocker type which needs a deep wide base type single fins to work with.

These are great fins. They are very loose, either this fin or quads is what I use. The fin also has a lot of hold up on a rail.
With a 6.5, 8, and 9" I can change it up for the waves. I guess the looseness is why I like them.

So are you saying that a board to run a single fin is better if it has more rocker. It is that board although im sure Jackson close is riding probably a 26'wide there. Liking a single fin im wondering if it is the right board for one, although it seems to go really well.

For small waves single fin would give you more torque and drive as Colas said even on a flat rocker but it has to get a lot of belly trough the tail to have some easy transfer rail to rail. So as the Jackson Close 10ft Deep seems to have some belly through the tail, that's finally up to the size of waves and surfing style that you might choose the kind of fin.

Actually, I think that if Quobba could produce a single fin, it could be quite a revelation...
