On march the 2nd I will begin the circumnavigation of the Sydney basin. In a world first I plan to Stand Up Paddle 350km and overland portage 50km taking two weeks.

Day one complete. 18 .6 km in 3 hr 20 min Narrabeen lake to Palm beach in overcast and rainy conditions. Big thanks to Alex Faser who joined me and picked up some

Day Two - Update. Palm beach to Dangar Island, 11.2 km 2hr 20min. A southeast wind on our back changed as wind from the Hawkesbury funneled into our faces for most of this leg. Thankful again to have Alex Fraser along as support crew along with Andy Fermo taking on land crew. Tomo is bigger 60km to Wisemans. So a rest for me this afternoon after I look around this beautiful Island.

Here is the Dangar Island Dory next to the Fanatic Falcon custom touring 14x27.25. This rowing Dory was first designed and built in plywood sewn together with copper wire in 1982 by Dangar Island resident Ted Holiday 90 years young. This photo shows a Dory which won the annual Dangar Island derby race around the island.

Pretty good average speed considering the distance you have covered.

I have just purchased a Suunto ambit 2, what exercise program do you use?

Have you found a specific program for SUP?

If so does it track your cadence?

Big Lump. Thx for the support. That average speed is with stops to eat and sore feet. Am still new to the Suunto. I have mine custom set to SUP. As far as cadence goes I would start looking for a custom app from suunto users. I love my watch.

I am knackered. 33km in 5hrs 6min into light winds. Just sore from yesterday. Ten dollars for Tangaroa Blue from Rob aboard Crackling Rose. Item of the day : A TV monitor floating by. And a great welcome from Brewongle EEC at Sackville. Tomo 31 km to the famous town of Windsor and a great welcome from the Windsor Canoe Club.

How does that river compare to Molokai?

Backing up day after day is hard. Today was half the distance and harder. Tomo is strong head winds. I am coming off injury and a two month rest phase so am feeling it.

What I meant was paddling 33 km yesterday was harder than the 60km the day previous.

Doing great mate. Keep pushing and keep posting.

Day 5 update. 31km to Windsor and a big welcome in by the Windsor canoe club after 4hrs 56min into the tide. These guys know the essence of mate ship. The Hawkesbury Gazette was on hand to interview me for a story for the paper due out next wednesday. I am on the doorstep of the Nepean portages. Excited

Day 6 Update - 24.6km 5hr 6min, three portages. Best day in ages. Body is getting used to the long days. The team from the Windsor canow club paddled me up to the Nepean river in preperation for the massive 20km and 18 portages I face tomo to get to Penrith. The Windsor club does weekly clean ups shedding light on the monster marine debris problem even up here on the upper Hawkesbury beaches. Thanks Horst, Niel, Warren, and paddling Legend 80 year old Bryan Norman. Donate to Tangaroa blue with some cash or clean up your local beach and send the stats into Tangaroa to go on the Australian Marine Debris Initiative, minimum required 100m 4x a year to represent seasonal variation. Change the way we do things at the top and bottom.
